That was a major problem with Diary. In Night, Dawn, and Day, Romero never had his characters so explicitly state the film's themes - in Diary, they never shut-up about it. Terrible, terrible script.

I quite like the Savini remake too. I still think the original is the better of the two, though Savini's version does have some excellent strengths. I agree about Tony Todd. He was fantastic as Ben. The problem with the remake is that it's just too much like the original, and doesn't do to much that the first one didn't.

The remake of Dawn of the Dead is still the best remake of a Romero film, I think.
