Red Dwarf. I used to like it, then it sank in that the show really boils down to character-driven humour. Sci-fi comedy works by exploring the humourous side of science, or referencing itself and its fans (i.e. the brilliant Galaxy Quest). Unfortunately, Red Dwarf falls into . . .

I think I love it so much because of all the happy memories I had watching it with my friends. It is formulaic, but I'm not looking for character development or even cogent plots when I watch it. Almost every thing I watch or read is dramatic, and held to exacting standards. It's nice to have a break from the cerebral now and again.

Have you ever seen Lexx? It was another show to come out of Canada. When the Sci-Fi channel bought it, the guy who played La Croix got a role playing a similar character.

I haven't gone out of my way to catch re-runs of old favorites or buy the DVDs, so I don't know how I'd respond to many of them.

One that I did catch recently, the old Battlestar Galactica, ended up boring me. I was surprised, as I had been looking forward to re-acquainting myself with the original cast. But the show just did nothing for me anymore.

MASH was mentioned. I haven't watched any reruns in a long time, but in the past I've named it my all-time favorite TV show. I like to think the show still means something to me, but who knows?

i was thinking of finding Space 1999 - but not sure how it has held. anyone seen it lately?

Depends on which seasons. The last 2-3 seasons are far weaker than I remembered, and we used to re-watch them a lot.

Seasons 2-8 are still watchable, though I really don't sit down and watch; more like background when I'm on the computer, etc.
