Meat is good.
Agreed.
But vegetarian and vegan are as well.

You do not balance a scale by removing all weight from one side.

Wisdom speaks.
Yet, there are meat meals I do not like. I pesonally have a hard time with meat loaf or beef stew. And there are a lot of vegetarian and vegan meals I do like. The Sloppy Lentils recipe ~Lyr posted is one of my favorites.
Balance.
Not all entrees need to contain meat. And not all need not contain it either. Do you complain about a slice of cheese or veggie pizza if that is all that is being offered?

Meat is good, but like the others say, there may be reasons for taking time off from eating it. When I was little, my parents could not always afford to buy a lot of meat, so we ate much smaller portions, or else had meatless meals. And later when they began raising their own cattle, chickens and pigs (sorry, Menolly) that rather carried over. And then when we had meat that was hormone-free and organic, it spoiled my taste for other regular meat. I still don't care much for steak, and when I eat in a restaurant I almost always eat chicken.
When I do buy meat these days, it's organic hormone-free chicken. Now and again I get donations of meat from my parents who still farm organically. (Just last week they brought me several packages of steaks, roasts and ground beef!).
Anyway, meat isn't a bad thing at all. But it's not everything.

No need to apologize to me, ~Lyr. I may have hosted AOL's kosher cooking board for seven years, but I don't keep a kosher kitchen myself.
In fact, I was just thinking of fixing a nice BLAT...

I'm not sure how to react to this knowledge about a general dislike of Meat.

I don't dislike meat. . . I have my carnivore moments, truly.

...ditto...
dish up a nice platter of steak tartare with onion, egg, and capers, and I'm all over it
the more natural, uncooked state the meat is in, the happier I am
But, there is still nothing wrong with meatless meals as well.
Balance.

I have given up meat in years past for lent.
Was also pretty much meatless for a few years in my early twenties.
This year for lent I'm taking on clean living.
No alcohol tobacco or caffine. No fatty foods or junk food, or empty calorie foods.
Been drinking water and V8 instead of pop and beer; been drinking herbal tea instead of coffee (usually ginger tea). Apples in stead of doughnuts..stuff like that.
Big test yesterday, when the wife made a big heap of Egss Benny for breakfast...I usually have three eggs and bacon and hashbrown, and dip EVERYTHING in the sauce; including everyone else's leftovers. Instead I just had one poached egg (no sauce) and a big glass of V8

I don't think I could actively give up meat.
Thats not to say I dislike veggie food stuffs but I do tend to notice a lack of meat if its not present.
I have friends who only eat chicken or fish. I tend to eat a variety. Chicken being the most versatile appears more frequently but red meat is often consumed.
Given the choice, I choose meat over veg any day.

It's been tough. I hadn't really thought it was going to be that difficult going meat-free since I already am meat-free for breakfast and lunch everyday.

Menolly has posted a recipe for low-carb deep dish pizza in the galley that is so strange-sounding to me that I must give it a try... and since it can be meatless by foregoing meat toppings, it fits both parameters I'm working in... (a red meat-free Lent and and generally low-carb diet)

Enjoy, dw.
It really is one of my favorite low carb recipes.
Keep in mind, the refrigerating of the "crust" is essential.

Sounds interesting. I'll have to go and look.
For most of my working life, I was too broke to buy meat very often, so I ate a lot of meatless meals. MagickMaker went red-meat-free last year, so I kinda sorta did, too. Now that both girls are at college, I have red meat occasionally -- usually pork, tho, as I tend to kill steaks

-- but usually it's turkey or chicken, or some sort of fish/seafood. Or, yeah, a meatless entree. I used to rely on cheese a lot, but it's high in fat (and the lowfat stuff's kinda nasty...), so now I do a fair amount with beans.

The low carb pizza is pretty high fat, ali. It is more or less Atkins oriented, rather than South Beach.

Ah. Never mind, then. Thanks for the warning....

Oh man...it's getting so difficult!!!!
NO Coffee?!?!?!?1
No Junk food?!?!?!?
No BEER?!?!?!?!
What the hell was I thinking?
The Wife bought a sixpack of my FAVORITE beer
To make a fish batter with....there's still four left!!!! I just wanted to grab them and down them, let the sweet nectar swim around my tongue...
Oh and thanks dad!!! He comes home from a trip to the carribean, with a forty of rum for me!!
I had to hide it in a cupboard where I can't reach it very well.
I had about five dollars to my name today; and no lunch; pulled into a little truckstop; it would have ben so easy to buy a big bag of chips and bottle of pop...but no...I bought some water and crackers instead. Mmmmmm!!!
The only thing (so far) that I haven't been tempted by, is the smokes. sothat's cool...I'm sure its only a matter of time before someonelights up a nice sweet cigar and offers one to me!!!!
Oh well, I've made it a week and a half...the next five should be a breeze.
--That is until Rrrroll up the Rrrrim starts up!!!!
and hey....
EVERYBODY like TIm Hortons!!!
