Just read a GREAT Juve book! "The naked mole-rat letters." It reminded me about some things about empathy and "going outside oneself" that I've forgotten.
It's also about lying and the "tangled web we weave," secrets, family, grieving, and opening up to "outsiders." Perhaps it's mostly about opening ones heart up to relationships.
Premise:
Girl who's lost her mom years ago (Frankie) shares a family e-mail account with her dad. Her dad starts dating a zookeeper lady on a business trip, and Frankie sees an e-mail from the lady. Frankie flips out... and tries to hijack the relationship with forged e-mails. The lady responds to her in honest, caring and clever ways. At the same time, Frankie is very freaked out because of something out of her control, and she starts lying and getting into trouble at school.
It's frickin' beautiful!
dotd, <3 ! Your smiley there matches your avatar. I didn't get through "Island of Blue Dolphins" yet. I still intend to though. Sometime.
