Fist and Faith wrote: So things become very complicated even though the message, the truth, is very simple: Love."

"That’s it."
"No religious dogma?"
"No religious dogma."
"No commandments?"
"No commandments."
"No worship?"
At this, Jesus wrinkled his nose in distaste, and shook his head.
"You're kidding!"
"To my knowledge, no being who you might possibly consider worthy of worship is asking for any. Personally, I cannot imagine why I would want to be worshipped."
"No nothing?"
"No nothing. The answer to every question is love."
I smiled. "Love is the answer? John Lennon was right?"
"Yes," Jesus laughed. "
Ya know, this Jesus guy doesn't sound so bad. Great story!

That was my favorite part too!
"Love is the answer? John Lennon was right?"
"Yes." Jesus laughed.
I LOVED THAT!!!
And so very true.

Sorry I'm late, but I'd just like to say I read the story and I liked it - although the concept is a classic one, it was neatly done.
(By the way, I was sure you'd nicked the name Wesley from
The Princess Bride. After all, that Wesley's a pretty cool guy, whereas Wesley Crusher is merely annoying.

Heh. TNG's Wesley was, I think,
extremely underutilized. The kid was beyond genius - actually a new step in evolution, sort of. But it began with Picard treating him like crap, and that tone stayed. Even when nobody was treating him badly, he was sorta weak and pathetic. lol
And yeah, The Princess Bride's Wesley was surely stronger in many ways. Although he did think very badly of Buttercup when he found out she was engaged to Humperdink, and tested her unfairly.
Anyway, thanks for reading my story and the compliment!

Excellent message.
I always wanted to write a dramatic fiction about the life of Jesus, full of the struggles of a man who finds himself with supernatural powers and no explanation, in his struggle to find a purpose and a way to deal with those around him and their reactions to him, as well as his personal responsibility. Sort of like a Covenant/Jesus. Can you imagine how Thomas Covenant would have dealt with being JESUS? the Son of GOD?! hahaha.. breakdown after tragic breakdown.
I want to call it "Of Nazereth".
Of course, fictionalizing the life of jesus and giving him serious personality flaws might get a....few people offended...you know..just...a couple.....
here and there...hehehe

heh Yeah, you might run into some resistance with that.

Sounds like an interesting idea to me, though. Have you started yet? You know, people get upset by that kind of thing. I've heard people say they'd never go see
Bruce Almighty, because it makes fun of Christianity, or God, or however they put it. But if they SAW the movie, they'd see that it does the opposite. I imagine that's what your story would do, too.

Oh, of course, I would want it to show the beauty of humanity and its capacity to rise above itself.
It would be the story of Jesus' discovery of love. I think I would want him to begin interacting with an 'entity' or consciousness of love, and through that interaction, form his teachings around him.
Nope, haven't started it yet... I've got other ideas, and I think i'm just about ready to start writing again in general.
I can't wait to start posting my writing here. Is there a forum for the discussion and formation of ideas, as opposed to just posting the final product? Would that go in here as well?

Good question. For the most part, only finished poems/stories/artwork have been going in here. But it's not written in stone. I posted some excerpts from Rilke's
Letters to a Young Poet, and didn't get any flack over it.

I'd say go for it. If it turns out that too many threads like it pop up, burying the submissions, then maybe we could have a Writers Workshop forum in the Collective.

There are a couple of other threads with "work in progress." Go ahead and go for it.

Neat story, Fist. All I need is love? Darn, all this time I thought what I only needed was a good internet connection and a comfortable chair.
Very bold of you to put words into the mouth of Christ, like Syl said. Real gutsy!

That depends on what your beliefs about him are, eh?

Yeah, now that I know a bit more about you, the tone of the story doesn't take me off guard as much as it did at fuerst.
Err
First. That was an odd typo.
