Irronically, years later, I bought one of those cars I was caught breaking into as my first car...a 1981 Monte Carlo...

No, never been arrested or cautioned or questioned or anything of that nature. Was once stopped on the street for wearing black and carrying a torch. I assume the officers in question must have been bored.

Does torch mean what Americans call a flashlight?

Yep been arrested a few times. All many years ago

1. Public drunk charge when I was 17
2. DUI at 24
3. Driving on a suspended licence, driving without insurance, illegal turn, attempt to evade (all at the same time) when I was 25.

Nothing since then.

I've never been arrested, but I did find out I had a rap sheet ten pages long. You see, I grew up in New York, got married and moved to Maryland, and my best friend became a crack addict and stayed in New York.

So, she prostituted, got arrested and used my name. She carried drugs, got arrested and used my name. Unreal. Not knowing this, I divorced my husband and moved home.

A cop lived two houses down. He said, "who is that mowing the Jones' lawn?" And a friend of mine was there at his house, thank goodness, and said, "that's Hilary" and he said, "But Hilary is in jail, I arrested her last night" At that point he knew that there was a problem. Argh.

I still have a letter explaining the situation, in case something ever comes up. I am so embarrassed, because my name must have been in the newspaper court docket stuff a hundred times. And all my teachers and friends parents were probably saying to themselves, "She turned out bad, I knew it" :?

I was asked how many times I had been arrested. I told them none, and they looked at me with unbelief. I said, "For real! Never!" and they said that they thought I would say that.

Leave it to the cops to treat the victim badly. I wanted to sue the cops for getting things so messed up, but a lawyer told me it was my own fault for never being arrested and having my fingerprints on file. If my fingerprints were on file and they arrested someone as me, I would have had a case. Can you believe this?

The only time I was ever fingerprinted was when I was touring the police station with my brownie troop, and I got chosen to have my prints taken. I got to take them home to my parents, hehe.

Oh, and as for my FORMER friend, the crack addict, she went to jail for first degree forgery and impersonation. I'm just afraid she is going to do it again to me, or to someone else. I'd smack her around, but she is bigger than me and would probably kick my butt. Although, I did give her a black eye in the seventh grade. Maybe that's what this was all about! hehe.

I 'stole' my parents' BMW to drive to my college Leavers' Ball, after being expressly told that I was not allowed. They had me arrested on the way back and I've never driven any of their cars since.

Luke Timmins, a software design engineer at Bungie, has one of my favourite arrest stories:
Luke Timmins wrote:On April 1, 1998, I broke into the main e-mail server at the University of Utah, u.cc.utah.edu. I was running for a senate seat in the Associated Students of the University of Utah, and I thought that sending out e-mail messages for my political party would be a good way to get votes. I was hoping that I could find a directory structure that would allow me to compile a list of e-mail addresses at the University, but what I found led me to a day in jail and a third degree felony charge.

After stepping through the computer’s security, I obtained administrator access and began to poke around. I found a rather large file that upon inspection was exactly what I was looking for: a list of over 23,000 e-mail addresses, names, and phone numbers. I quickly wrote a program to strip the e-mail addresses from the file, and then it dawned on me. These names weren’t ordered alphabetically and they weren't ordered by student identification number either. I had just inadvertantly stolen the social security numbers of 23,000 students.

(Good to see you around Lady Revel.) Funny that...Here, your fingerprints are taken at 16 when you apply for your Identity Document, and again when you apply for learners and drivers licences. In theory, every legal citizen of the country has their fingerprints on file.

i once spent 5 hrs in the pokey for a 5 dollar cold check.

and i didn't even get like...really "arrested." stupid county sheriff
calls my house at 7 a.m. one weekday morning
and tells me to come on down and be arrested!! 8O

i'm all like "hey! wait a minute, i know my rights! i didn't get a 20 day
notice letter!!"
he says, "ok, you're right. we'll call you back when we've looked into that."
next morning, bright and early, county sheriff calls back and says
"well, looks like your roomate wrote on the letter that you didn't
live there. come on down and be arrested!"

what happened is...
i was on my way to the med center to work one afternoon and realized
i didn't have cash for dinner. so i stopped at a liquor store where my friend's boyfriend, Les, worked. my friend Barb had worked there a for a while too and we used to party with Les and some of the other employees there so...like ALL the employees knew me, and Les was the manager.
i was supposed to move in with Barb but decided not to but when i wrote
the check for cash to the liquor store, i crossed out my old address
and wrote Barb's on the check. it was that weekend that i decided not
to move in with Barb. she and i had a falling out.
i also didn't know that by the time the five dollar check was presented
at my bank for payment i would be overdrawn.

so when that happened, freakin LES sent the freakin thing to the county sheriff's office where such things were normally sent, RATHER than calling me. Les, brilliant guy that he was, didn't realize that CYNDI is short for LUCINDA so he didn't connect the name with me. likely story! whatever.
anyway...the really nasty part is that the 20 Day Notification thing that comes to you is a 20 day notice to take care of the cold check or go to jail,
it went to BARB'S apartment.
she's the one who wrote on the envelope that i was "not at this address."

so.
i had to go down to the county jail and be arrested.
they did not strip search me as i was terrified they would.
the trustee guys rolled cigs to us girls under the door of
the holding cell where i spent the five longest hours of my life.
five hours in the pokey for a five dollar cold check.
how bad does that suck?

Unfortunately for me, I had been tagging along, so I got nabbed as well. Needless to say, that was a humiliating experience. That day taught me that I needed to choose my friends very carefully.
I had the exact same experience at that age. Learned the same exact lesson.

I don't think you could consider it getting caught, as I was the one who called the police in the first place, or rather, I had my mother call them while I was quite literally fighting for my life, that said, I probably could have gotten away without passing that last punch, but, he deserved it. :P
