I would be more inclined to agree with two not three. In TPTP he was trying to not be cruel and inflict any more suffering to Lena. He made up an excuse not to marry her and it was something that she would buy as plausable. "Berek didnt marry his queen either" is what he said in response to her question about them being able to get married. That is the only reason he called her his 'queen'.

Although he cared for her a great deal, it was more than likely concern, and guilt, for having hurt her, and failing to protect their daughter, than love. Im glad that before she died she at least found it within herself to stop protecting him , and hate him for what he had done.

He certainly wasn't going around the Land thinking about how much he missed her... and when they met in TPTP he wasn't thinking how glad he was to have found her again.

In fact IIRC he thinks "You're crazy, old woman. It's your daughter I love."

Well she was OLD. Covenant can't love someone like that. He's not that deep.

I agree that Longwrath is indeed after Joan, and indeed even if he was after Linden; the important question remains; Who sent him? Not Foul, he wouldn't want Linden hurt because that might the outcome of his plan. Remember in Runes he said something like "if you stay trapped and useless, certain things will remain beyond my sight, and my Enemy may find a means to snare me. But if you remain released, you will work my will, and I will be freed". Foul wants Linden alive. And if Longwrath is after Joan, Foil would never had sent him to harm someone who is his complete tool.

Emser? I think not, too subtle. The Elohim think Linden is there to save the Land at first, and deal with Joan; no need for them to isend a raging giant. Not to mention the Elohim are more effective than a giant would ever be in countering a threat.

But Esmer is only a partial Elohim, and doesn't take any actions based on what the "Elohim collective" would want (if such a thing could be said to exist). Considering that Longwrath shows up at the same time as the skurj, these could be multiple threats from Kassy/Roger/Esmer, who seem to be somewhat of a 'team' (again I use the word loosely

).

I agree the Elohim wouldn't bother to send a crazy Giant when one of them could do it themselves. But it's also interesting that Infelice does not stop Linden. She tries to convince her to stop (and doesn't do a very good job of explaining why Linden shouldn't resurrect TC), but in fact leaves her to act freely even though Infelice knows what's going to happen.

He may really be a 'wild card' ... Longwrath's vision might be like Earthsight and not have been prompted by any of the protagonists.

Agreed, but m point is that he never even wishes he could've been with her, or that she was younger, or whatever...

I think it is also important to note that although Joan's past decisions have left her open to corruption at the hands of Foul, she is still a victim, and Linden feels the need to protect her. Longwrath seems to have no capacity for reason, I dont doubt that Linden would light the mad giant up like a Christmas tree if he laid hands, or blade on Joan.

Who sent Longwrath? His motive doesn't say much. Plenty of powers wanted to kill Linden (or Joan if you're right). I think the key to finding who sent him is to look at his powers.

Longwrath can magically get free of his chains. This power is the same power Joan had in the hospital. So the same force must have been at work on both of them. We know that Joan's puppeteer was either Lord Foul himself or one of his Ravers. While Lord Foul might disapprove of sending assassins against Linden the Ravers have their own agenda.

At the end of WGW we learn that the Raver's key motivation is fear of death. At that time one of them was rent to pieces by a sandgorgon. Can that be undone? The rent raver has worked hard to convince the sandgorgons who ate him to go to the Land and one of his brothers found a giant he could twist and made him go with a sandgorgon slaying sword to the Land. Why then does he want to kill Linden? If Linden works too fast the giant might not have enough time to kill all the sandgorgons and unite the pieces of the raver. After all their hard work to restore their brother they can't allow Linden to spoil things for them. Also they might have feared that she would command them to do something (like she did in the woodhelven battle) dangerous like defeating Kestenessen or his skurj that would kill many of them without a care to the pieces of their brother. That would lead to his final death instead of his restoration.
