Hey, I've been beaten up plenty. Have you ever lost your vision for several hours due to pressure upon your occiputal lobe?

Beating people up who lack common sense is good for everybody. Their lack of common sense threatens both their survival and everyone else's.

Careful. . . the way you stated this makes it sound as if you were beaten for lacking common sense. And I doubt that this is what you mean.

Common sense is aquired by individuals. It is not an inherent trait among humans.

I got my common sense by getting into routinely bad situations until I learned better.

So. . you are advocating letting others have the same chance? I thought it sounded as if you wanted to rid the world of such people. . . which by your own admission was a group you belonged to in the past.

Either you learn, and stop getting beaten, or you get beaten to death.

I think that other means exist in which to learn, other than getting beaten to death. As a person who also had to learn common sense, I will say that the best teacher I ever had for this subject was natural consequence.

Ah, natural consequence. It seems to be more and more the case that people can't (or refuse to) accept that their actions have consequences. Abdication of responsibility makes me seethe with rage.

Ooh, I'll share some of that soapbox action, Cov! That is one of my pet peeves too.
