But True Romance was another that he was involved with but didn't direct, right? I liked it pretty well. I remember a friend of mine almost laughed himself to death over the Bronson Pinchot line where he mistook what the feller on the other end asked him to do. It was mainly because the character wasn't ruling it out, just surprised by it.

Actually, I'm with Usivius on the Kill Bill argument. I liked Vol 1 because it was all pure style and wasn't weighed down by dialogue like Vol 2 was. I definitely see the point of it lacking depth, but I think it achieved some of those aims with more subtlety. The scene in the hospital is one of the most chilling I've even seen on screen.

For whatever reason, Pulp Fiction just didn't work for me. I did like the scenes with Samuel Jackson and John Travolta, but otherwise the movie left me cold.

Yeah, True Romance is directed by Tony Scott - back in the days when Scott could actually direct himself out of a paper bag. Scott's stylistic influence is pretty obvious in this one. I agree, Gandolfini has a stellar little role in this film.

My own reasons for not liking the Cult of Tarabtino is the man is a shameless plagiarist. Beyond that, some of his direction style is interminable (recall the scene of Mr Pink and Mr White talking in Resevoir Dogs, as the audience is treated to an utterly irrelevant and bland shot of a toilet - to name just one of his moments of lack of cinematographic inspiration).

That the man has been succesful is little surprise - he takes dialogue, ideas and, sometimes, whole scene compositions from very distinct and well-made movies which few people remember or have even heard of, and then unceasingly boasts of his own 'genius' and creativity. It must rankle Roger Avary somewhat that Tarantino talked him out of his co-writer credit for Pulp Fiction. Some of the best stuff in that film (Walken's cameo) was Avary's work.

Haha! That's only some of the ones he gets called out on.

Anyone in doubt about Tarantino's shocking plagiarism watch Resevoir Dogs, then rent out HK action film City on Fire. Pay particular attention to the shot-for-shot theft of the parts where a police car is riddled with bullets. First time I saw City on Fire, I was stunned at what a shameless hack Tarantino was. Heck, there's even a documentary that's been made on how the man ripped the film off.
