Malik's admonishment to gear down helped me quite a bit this morning, as I didn't try to push myself the entire time but instead paced myself with a lower gear. More than anything else, I'm enjoying the quiet time and the early morning cool air.
And Sea -

Malik's admonished me as well about gearing down and it helped me too. I had no idea it would make such a difference, but (again) he was right.
Keep up the good work, DLB!

How do you stress that word in this context?
And dlb: Don't get a padded/wider saddle. That's going to give you to much wear on the inner thighs, and you'll end up walking like John Wayne.
Keep using the hardest, narrowest saddle you can get. Your perineum will harden quicker than you think

It's my tailbone that's killing me! I've just returned from a long weekend road trip which included a 8 hour drive and I'm seriously hurting from sitting so long.

Then your saddle is to low or your handlebars to high. While it might hurt a bit in the beginning, it is the perineum and the lower part of your gluteus maximus (which are both all muscle) that should support your weight. This is accomplished either by tilting the saddle slightly backwards or leaning forwar. You tailbone should'nt carry any load while riding a bike.
But no matter what, if you have just started, you WILL hurt after an EIGHT hour drive! Christ. That IS optimistic

Hmm, interesting, I have nearly full leg extension on the downstroke on the pedals so I'll try lowering the handlebars tonight.

Christy and I have been biking for a couple months. Nothing strenuous, but we're certainly getting in better condition all the time.
Christy tried this little dirt road the other day when she was out, and it turns into all these trails throughout the woods. Not too far from our house, but we're both new to this immediate area. We found this on one of the trails today:

That's really cool, Fist and Faith. It's wonderful to have trails nearby, especially when they're that pretty.

I got back on the bike this am after being sick with a summer head cold for about 10 days. It's hard to ride when your head is full of concrete. Needless to say I've fallen behind, but I plan to hit it hard this week to catch back up again.
