"Newer" stuff: Some Neal Stephenson. "Snowcrash" is over-all only OK, but the background/setting has more cool things in it than 10 books by other people, and his latest "Anthem" is getting great reviews (yet to pick it up)
And from the past, Robert Silverberg.
And I have a huge soft spot for Ursula K. Le Guin.
