I'm guessing there is definitely something supernatural about the Sandgorgons and uttering their names which would create a scenario that has very specific parameters in order to function and as has been stated previously you probably couldn't speak it by accident or out of ignorance.
It would however be interesting to test the theory out under certain circumstances. Suppose TC were able to build or have built a hot air balloon. Such a device should function in the LAND and elsewhere on The Earth. Then some idiot ascends in the balloon to a fairly substantial altitude and utters the name of a Sandgorgon. Would it work if the person were high enough that the magical emanations from the ground no longer enveloped the balloon? Could you find anyone stupid enough to make the attempt? If the curse worked you would have a raging Sandgorgon pounding the ground beneath the balloon until said balloon inevitably descends to the ground where said idiot is pummeled to death.
