The answer above is IMHO the true essence of what Foul was saying.

The only thing I could think to add to this would be to say that Foul picks his words carefully and EVERYTHING he says is meant to cause a reaction that helps him in the end. Read back at what Foul said to TC in the 1st Chronicles and you'll notice that without what he specifically said to Covenant, the path that lead to the Arch of Time being in danger would never have been.

BTW; you're really going to love the 2nd Chronicles.

I'd have to agree with that Caamora Time. It is the nature of Evil to make you feel powerless and Foul does his best to make both TC and LA feel powerless. Of course, at the end of the Power that Preserves, Thomas Covenant discovers he is not powerless at all.

Your input has given me much to chew on as i work my way through the second chronicles. iam relieved at the implication that convenant is not as powerless as foul would have you believe, because i was not relishing the prospect that it was linden who was the one with the power this time round, because my feelings towards the character have been luke warm so far, but maybe thats because i dont have the perspective on her as i do for convenant. With everything thats happened iam really rooting for him to make amends this time!

I do however like sunder, he reminds me somewhat of triock and atiaran..you know...conflicted.

Its a real testament to the skill of the author when he makes you feel really...distraught at the state of the world when you start to learn how bad things are...no stone lore? no wood lore? they dont evan know what the earth power is anymore?!?!?! ..this isnt what mhoram meant when he said he wanted to find a different path to the old lords!

One thing i have been wondering too, with the law of death being still broken (as far as i know) would it be possible for the old characters to be resurected? with wild magic being you know....more powerful than anything!

I know one thing, and ive tried to avoid spoilers as best i can ..BUT the front cover of the book has a big boat on it, a giant boat one could say, i guess there not all dead

And one thing has been bugging me as i read more and more, of course all of convenants friends are dead (may they rest in peace) but where the hell are the ranyhyn?!?

Oah and thanks for the audio book explanation, i look forward to them being available! Will there be an announcemen on kevins watch or will i have to track down scott and keep asking him if i can buy them yet? :)
All good questions & observations Ranek! Please keep them in mind as you continue to share your first journey to the Land with TC and LA. While I am new to Kevin's Watch, I have read both the first and second Chronicles of Thomas Covenant many times. I hope you enjoy the skill of SRD as much as I have. The Land is a truly unique creation in the fantasy novel genre and SRD's skill as a wordsmith is greatly appreciated!

Greetings watchers, thank you for your continued insight, I am of course doing as i should - reading the book! i dont want it spoilt for me but I do want to be able to unravel its mysteries as i go!

Currently Convenant, linden and sunder are on their way to revelstone to meet the clave, which dont sound like the friendley bunch the old lords were. One thing ive noticed in contrast to the first time convenant traversed the land to revelstone is that instead of infusing a sense of health and vitallity into convenant, it keeps trying to harm him, poison him and generally get in his way as he tries to discover whats going on. Thank the heavens the treasure berries are still hanging on, it proves foul hasnt completley took over :D

Sunders history is really, really sad..i didnt think id find anyone who could evan come close to convenants past troubles. Its pretty bleak when all your main characters are so sad, it makes me hope that saltheart , bannor and mhoram will come bounding along out of nowhere with the A team theme tune blaring to bring abit of joy to the proceedings.

I refuse to believe the ranyhyn are gone! They can resist the sunbane i just know it!

I seem to get the feeling that linden is not well liked by some? She seems to echo of the old convenant as i like to say, which makes her abit annoying but to be fair atleast she hasnt raped anyone yet!

Not that i want comfirmation of this but i think convenant is going to find out some of whats happening is his fault, because he talks about foul braking the laws with the sunabane which made me think that it was convenant who broke the staff of law, and possible that act has allowed this to happen. i hope am wrong though, for convenants sake :(

Thank you for contributing to my journey through the second chronicles thus far folks :)

I would never intentionally give someone spoilers. But it is great to "see" a first-time reader thinking through the possibilities and ramifications. It really takes me back. Awesome job!

The strength of character and spirit of those in the Land never cease to amaze me. One of the most appealing aspects of TCTC for me. :D
... nobody I know.

You may want to check out the dissection forums. There people have puzzled together over what is happening in each chapter. And is generally written to not spoil future chapters -- if you don't peek in the blacked-out spoilers.
