The bloodguard didn't trust the Words because they were magic, whereas they think brute strength, fighting skill and concentration are no assisted by airy-fairy distractions.

elena made them choose?? some how i dont think she tried hard enough... "look... theres a giant raver out there, with a
HUGE army, and you tight ass bastards wont even tell us the 7 words??? what kind of guards do you think you are?!?
also...
i find it unlikely that the 2nd ward had some specifically "Forestal" lore, as the lord's before Mhoram hadn't spoken to the Forestals.... (perhaps it shared some common lore..)
Remember mhorams conversation with Caerroil Wildwood, in which the forestal says that he knows little of man but the forest remembers the great destruction, or something like that..
cant check and get the quote coz i had my 1st crons stolen

oh well... i'll get another one soon...
Revelwood was just the coolest thing! just imagine a city made from a tree!! i'd never leave... i'd b sitting at the top with bloodguard trying 2 pull me off it, lol

You are right -- I should have said lore akin to that of the forestals. Ways of healing the land and growing plants and using Earthpower towards the same ends as the Forestals.
Also, about the Bloodguard, it had simply never occurred to anyone before TC came along with his very different way of looking at people and situations that the Bloodguard had any knowledge...just as no one had ever thought of finding any alternatives to Kevin's Lore.

Are you
dissing my unfettered friend?? i certainly hope not...
Don't you two start! I'll turn this Watch around!!

Actually, the Unfettered may not have been all that old. Possibly not even that much older than Atiaran. Though she knew
tons more than anybody else in Mithil Stonedown, she left the Loresraat before learning nearly everything. The Unfettered may have studied much more before becoming Unfettered.
And who knows, maybe the animals taught him a Word of two.

Well yeah, becoming an Unfettered in many cases meant choosing to go off somewhere and learn how to learn.

I was under the impression that the Unfettered came about after the Desecration, like the new Lords. Because, isn't it said that the Loresraat didn't come about until after the ROD too?? I may have to look that one up...

Nah the Unfettered Ones were just blokes and birds who choose to take off and do their own thing. They could have come up with their grand plans at any time, but they tended to need a start at the Loresraat to ground themselves with a bit of basic skill. They'd choose partway through that they'd rather go out and practice a particular element, developing that, rather than stay for the diploma.
Different Unfettered Ones would have commenced being Unfettered at different times through the ages.
I don't believe there was any reference to their outliving normal ages. I think they were pretty standard folks in that regard. Early Unfettered Ones would have died of old age.

I'm pretty sure you're right about the Loresraat. But that doesn't necessarily mean that someone on her/his way to joining Kevin's Council didn't decide otherwise, and become Unfettered.

This is true, but I don't recall anyone ever mentioning Unfettered ones before the ROD. I always thought that they attended the Loresraat, but instead of going by the sword or staff, they chose the Rites of Unfettering instead....

I think at one point Lord Mhoram says that he is the first new Lord in a looooooong time because all of the most able people had left the Loresaat to become Unfettered...(my books are at home and I am not, so I cannot give a quote on this).

No, there was no mention of any Unfettered in the time of the Old Lords, I'm just saying there could possibly have been. And I don't happen to think the Andelainian Unfettered One was from then.
However, I think an Unfettered could have had the same extended life that any of the New Lords had. They had strong ties to the Earthpower. I don't think it was Kevin's Lore specifically that extended life, just a strong tie. Certainly Kevin living centuries was because his tie was extremely strong, and I assume much stronger than any of the Unfettered. But the New Lords' tie wasn't as strong as Kevin's by a long shot either, so the Unfettered may have been equal in that regard.

ohhhh..I think you are right Duchy

We know so little about the Unfettered. Sure do hope we get more insight into them in the Last Chrons. They have always fascinated me.

Some of the Unfettered had VERY long lives...look at that fellow Triock met in TPTP.
And yes, it would be the use and close ties with the Earthpower that would cause this, just as with the Lords and gravellingas and others who use it.

Nah the New Lords got reasonable longevity (as you say, because of Lore), but the Unfettered, no matter how skilled they were in their particular arena, certainly weren't quite across lore as much as Lords were ... so I am certain that an Unfettered would on average not enjoy a lifespan equal to that of a New Lord.

Wow!! Good catch there, duchess!! Yes, the Gravelingas did not use Kevin's Lore, yet they had extended lives too.

No, the man Triock met was much longer lived than any new Lord that we know of. He could remember Mhoram's mom before she was even a Lord, when she was a foxy young lady.

your right duchess, mhoram did say that, i dont have my books either but i can remember it. - and its after they finish the loresraat that they choose if they want to become a lord or take the rites of unfettering. this i am certain on.
and i'm sure that somewhere it says that unfettered have longer lives... i mean why would a lord or gravalingas have a longer life but not an unfettered? they all use the same earthlore dont they?

Oh he did say that. SO its a chance, then. But what did that Unfettered study?

lol notice the useage of old words...

it all works
