I think post count wars are temporary bits of fun in any community. I certainly have been involved in other forums where they were a bunch of fun for a while but they ultimately die a silent death.
If this board was to be a purely purist discussion on SRD then I believe we would be missing out on many of the great people we have here.
The Collective was created mostly for the purpose of having a bit of fun within some broadly defined categories that we all enjoy from time to time and I think they're harmless fun

well this thread gave me a nasty shock! I am so glad you havent gone anywhere! You are a permanent fixture around here mhoram! how can we have a Watch without Lord Mhoram?? no es posible! es mui malo!
as for the post wars ..

.. posting shouldnt be a war .. though it should be fun! and the creche idea of Landwasters .. is kinda taken care of here with the Collective .. which is pretty much all fun and games!
but senseless new threads that leave you wondering .. what the hey is this about?? can clog up the general discussion board .. and it would be great if folk wanted to put their fun and nonsense threads in say a fun and nonsense forum .. lol
but as we all are good natured Watchers .. we do endeavour to welcome all posts and most threads along the way ..
I think folk who just post to rack up a post count .. really arent getting as much out of being here as they could be

.. but thats really their loss
earthy has some good advice .. post where you're interested .. and try to ignore the stuff that doesnt interest you
i get bored sometimes with some threads .. not because their crap

but hey?? *shrug*

.. but for many reasons .. maybe i've already discussed this question numerous times before or .. their just too silly for words

LOL
if i am in a silly mood .. then i just want to have some silly fun .. and make my way to the Hall of Gifts or the Galley .. were there is a lot of silly olympics ..
i have been here a long time .. like you my friend .. and we have put a lot of serious discussion up on the board here and on the original Watch .. but at the end of the day there's only so many ways one can look at the same question
stick with us mhoram .. and if you can create some gutsy threads .. excellent!!
there's nothing better than having a discussion you can really get your teeth into
and please dont scare me like that
I have nothing but complete admiration and great love for you Lord Mhoram!
perhaps if we put a lid on all the post-count heralding .. that might take the emphasis off post-counts and thus post-wars too
you are most definately
not your post count especially since the inception of the rapid post game threads .. posts are really meaningless gained this way alone
post quality is way more impressive than post quantity imho

Earthy's advice is good but what if you really want to contribute to the TC discussions and find all the (serious) threads there goofed on? That did happen and I can see how that could bother someone.

indeed .. but i wouldnt delete a thread just because i personally deemed it boring or cant find any personal significance in it .. especially where it receives a lot of posts .. It would seem that there are those who appreciate this kind of thread ..
I prefer to gently encourage posters in general to be aware of what they are posting and why .. than to take a swipe at them with a big stick!
There are far more significant times to intervene .. when posts may have crossed that preverbial line .. into abuse or unnecessary and pointed criticism.
For just the fluff and nonsense .. I see no "harm" .. just only fluff and nonsense
Some threads I have moved if it is clearly out of place .. usually unintentionally .. and that can be simply done so as not to offend its author
i guess what has always impressed me about Kevins Watch .. is the ethos of this place originated by Jay himself is that we do try to be tolerant of a wide range of views as they arise in this fine community of Watch-folk
its boards where there is a more militant attitude and a visceral lack of tolerance of newbies particularly that has always bothered me a lot more

My sometime emphasies (what is the plural?) on post counts are actually a foil so that nobody notices the real crime ... the mass of WG$ I'm amassing *manic chortle*
Seriously, here's a question for the massing hordes : would it be worthwhile having satirical TC discussion placed in an individual forum? While I love to chat seriously about TC, I also find it immensely therapeutical to suggest enacting a Sunbane in the real world, chlorinating Earthroot, legalising RoDs.
Obviously I don't really advocate those ideals, but, along with packing TC a suitcase full of firepower for his trip, blaming my bedroom's mess on a geraden visit, etc etc, its relevant fun.
Do people prefer to keep such idle banter out of the main boards? Maybe a separate board is required?

thats not a bad suggestion actually Landwaster .. and worth looking into .. mmm .. an Idle Banter forum .. but re: idle TC banter ..
but i guess we dont want to call the TCTC forum .. the serious silliness not allowed by penalty of death forum ..cos there's gonna be fun had even there
But i think taking the copious idle banter threads and putting them somewhere else .. isnt a bad idea .. but there always going to appear methinks from time to time
.. but in which case they can easily be relocated

Yeah it would be a bit dreary to not allow any hijinx at all in the main forums, and determining the difference would take consummate line-drawing to a prohibitive level.
But *shrug* if it helps, I'm all for it.
