danlo totally rocked at this during Seafest Denver.
Once he joined in, it was all over.
But it was serious fun!
Magickmaker and I were just reminiscing about that, when I found Cag's directions for the game. :) And Cag, thanks for posting the rules to Take Two -- as pathetic as it sounds, we sorta forgot them.

You need to try a game of speed scrabble (literati).

I read your instructions for Take Two, Cag...but I think I'll stick with the tried and true form of scrabble. Sorry.

Arkham Horror is my favourite:

My husband and I host monthly Arkham Horror games with our friends. I loooove that game! Did you know there's a character creator out there that lets you make custom characters? We've made a few. It's a lot of fun!

Anyone remember Hero Quest? Awesome game.

The Dark Tower was a personal favorite as a kid.

Man, I sooo want to try Arkham Horror! But, aside from not being able to find it at stores (which isn't much of a problem) there's this problem of finding people welling to try and learn it and then play it! *sigh* College kids and their sauce

It's possible to run Arkham Horror online, via a forum. It was done at the Fantasy Flight Games (publisher) forum.

I love Monopoly, especially the Astronomy edition.
Image
It's really cool to be able to buy the Andromeda Galaxy or the Crab Nebula. :) I've noticed that when I play with my brother, whoever gets Boardwalk (or the equivalent in another edition) invariably wins, even if the other player has hotels on four or five other sets of properties. The last several times I've played, I managed to get Boardwalk. :D

Another fun game is King's Court:
Image
It's somewhat similar to checkers in that if you jump over your opponent's piece the piece is removed from the board. The goal is to get rid of all of your opponent's pieces inside the inner square. Lots of fun and quite short.

I find this to almost always be the case as well.
Unless you're playing my sister, and she has a monopoly of hotels on the Marvin Gardens suite. Players seems much more likely to land on those yellow properties than on Boardwalk/Park Place, and their rents are pretty astronomical as well.

I find I can beat the crap out of anyone if I own and develope a corner (the one around Free Parking). Who needs Boardwalk? I'll give it away for free if I can get some properties in the FP corner (in which case I guess it isn't free :P )

*nodding*

The yellow suite is as you approach the "Go to jail" corner. Even with a hotel on Marvin Gardens (the most expensive of the suite), players hope to land on that than on the Go to jail corner in most instances.

Mastermind's a very tough game for me. I don't think I've ever won. It's a lot of fun though. :)

I don't remember if I ever won either. My sister nearly always beat me in every game we ever played. She was my main - well, my only opponent (it was a lonely household).

I also enjoyed Mastermind. My son is just getting into it now.

God, those games look awesome. I've never even seen or heard of most of them.

I do enjoy Risk, but the counting pieces and rolling dice is tedious. Thankfully, Ki got me a computer version of the game back in 1997, and it takes all that tedium out of the game. (Warning, only the 1997 version is any good. Don't buy the newer ones; they suck!) It also has expanded maps with a lot more countries/territories. You can play the computer, humans, or both.

Stratego is cool, but I don't own it. Of course I love chess, though I haven't played in years. Othello is another great game.

My youngest is finally getting at an age where we can play more than Sorry. Thank god. We had fun with his first game of Monopoly last night. When he put hotels on the two cheapest properties on the board, he thought he was a high roller. :)

I'm off to beat yet another "expert" in internet backgammon-I love Risk, I've won 16 out of 120 games of Go (no small feat actually), I destroy all monsters at Scrabble. Does Miles Bourne qualify as a board game or a card game? :?
