This is what gets me, too. It is the single greatest achievement in human history.
I used to believe the same thing until I came across this.

I was born on July 30, 1969, and it was all the talk. I've always felt connected to that event. When I went to the Smithsonian, I was amazed at the lunar lander, and like Aliantha said, they really did go up there with duct tape and rubber bands. Which is fodder for more conspiracy theorists.
I think they are fulla crap, no matter how much I love a good conspiracy. I'm with Hashi - they are fun and make you think. But I think it is best to think of conspiracies on a percentage of plausibility (which I ripped off from Robert Anton Wilson, who was a person who tinkered in conspiracies himself, but mainly fictitious ones).

Here we go.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Weird. I could've sworn there was some kind of debate with Revan or Hier in this thread. Probably means there's another one out there.
