I disagree.
A mere 100 years minimizes the utter destruction of the RoD.
I always thought it was more like several hundred.
How else could so much stone and wood lore be lost?
Not much would be forgotten if the people of the land were only in exile for a generation or two.

IMHO, Bereck's dead by the time Revelstone is built. This is just based on gut feeling. Prothal didn't necessarily survive long after surrendering his Highlordship. I also believe that Berecks line wouldn't give the staff into their sons hands unless (a) the son was ready AND (b) the father was ready to rest (code for die)

WOW! All of the above thread just serves to illustrate to me how much of a handle I have NOT got on the lands history. Is there a kind of 'time line' anywhere on this site that I could use to bring me up to speed (I just haven't got the time to read all the books again from scratch) or if not, could anyone with an encyclopedic recall for detail knock me up a quick one (sounds almost rude ) I can't tell who came first and did what - Damelon, Berek, Loric - and I have the neck to call myself a TC fan!

Which makes it more likely that Berek was around and retired when Revelstone was built, if anything.

I don't have the books handy...but I think there is a clue to the time gap [several maybe] in LF's talks about his long recovery.

Also, there's a hint of very long separation in what HLT (I think) was talking about: the wood and stone lore were remembered, but only those and mostly just the parts of it that aided survival directly--- it says somewhere that other old lore was lost: it would seem odd to lose that much lore, and all of the lanquage to express it that the old lords used, in just 100 years.
My assumption was always @1000yrs+.

I think it unlikely that Berek was around when Revelstone was built. Foamfollower, in his story to TC on the boat heading to Revelstone, said that Revelstone was completed during the time of Damelon, but coecri was not completed until the time of Loric. He also said that the lilianrill gained a lot of lore from the giants during the time of Loric. From that, it would seem that the giants arrived during the mid to late part of Damelon's time as High Lord.

There was only 1000 years between Kevin and TC's arrival to the land. Foul said "I have spent a thousand years gnawing at my desires like a beaten cur".

As far as we know there were only a dozen High Lords since TC arrived.
So we could be talking 600 or 700 years after the RoD before before there was even a Council.

Yes, it was about 1000 years from the Ritual to TC's arrival.

"Many generations" can mean 5 generations - 100 years - or it can mean much more. My best guess is that this period is between 100 or 200 years.

I don't think that this diminishes the extent of the Ritual. First, that's a very, very long time. Nature recovers from forest fires or volcanic eruptions in about one of our generations. Furthermore, the Land was no where near "healed" when the people returned - in fact, it was so bad, that they eventually pledged themselves to restore it.

Given nothing else to go on, and I don't think that there is anything else to go on, I would say that the time of the new Lords begins approximately when the First Ward is delivered to the people of the Land by the Giants. Which is shortly after the Giant's were re-discovered.

It was 2000 years between Berek's call to the Fire Lions to the RoD.
1000 years from the RoD to TC's summoning.
3500 years between the first chronicles and the second

As far as how long each of Bereks line lived, one only can surmise that each following high lord lifespan greatly exceeded the lifespan of their fathers.

We know three of them had a son.
We don't know if Kevin had a wife or a son, there isn't anything recorded.
But if memory serves me correctly,( I may have read it somewhere ) that Kevin was around a 1000 years old when he enacted the RoD.
Also I believe he may not have been born when Damelon was high lord or alive.


So I look at this way..

Berek lived an additional 200 - 300 years after making his oath.
Damelon lived an additional 800 years after Berek's oath. He fathered Loric 500 years or so after the oath.
Loric may have lived 1000 to 1500 years and fathered Kevin a 1000 years after the oath.
Kevin lifespan could have been up to 3000 years and he may have felt he was too young to have a son when he fell into dispair and enacted the RoD.
