and also...bizarrely, in my post i wrote "tavar" instead of tavore which the wow'ers would laugh at. tavar was the name of one of our guild members who led our raids! lol.


and as far as connecting with the characters, i'm starting to really like rillish jal keth and Peles.

also it was cool when Kyle cut those grapling hook chains with his special osserc sword (which, if it has a name i can't remember it)!!

also...i kinda like bakune the asessor

i've just stayed up all night finishing Stonewielder!

so yeah, i had an idea all along who the old guy hangin around with
kiska and jevahl was. heh. esselmont doesn't write him like erikson
does but there were a few clues along the way.

and...i think RotCG was better than Stonewielder.

honestly i think i've finally come round to the the prevailing
opinion that well...erikson's just a better writer than esselmont.
blasphemy i know but there it is.

not that i didn't like it or think he's not good. his writing just does
not have the poetry that erikson's does.

i've read a couple of reviews of Stonewielder from folks who say they
actually like esselmont better so i'm figuring it's just a personal taste
thing.

the battle scenes kinda bore the shit outa me.

as far as characters go the only really memorable character was Manask. tho i did like rillish. suth sort of seemed like a redeux
of kyle in RotCG.

I haven't finished Stonewielder yet, but I feel I can safely say it suffers from 'House of Chains' syndrome. That is, a book with good or better writing is written off due in part because the events of the previous book are so flipping epic.

So Stonewielder is better written but its plot is not as epic as Laseen getting assasinated in a backdrop of crazed Soletaken, Crimson Guard, Old Guard, and a tear into Chaos threatening to engulf the world! Face it, that's a tough act to follow.

So far this has been my least enjoyed jaunt through the Malazan universe.
I found myself indifferent to almost all of the new characters, except for Manask. Hopefully the next one is better.

Ok, done. Uh, wasn't it obvious from the start that whatsisname was Leoman? I knew as soon as he appeared.

I didn't get Warran though, right until the end. Fish? That's dumb...it was Pusk who was into fish.

Personally, I liked it a lot. Glad Rillish survived, he deserved it.

Interesting how the new emperor was taking back the people who largely opposed Laseen's policies. He may be a weasel, but maybe he's not going to be as bad an emperor as we thought?

And the Stormriders weren't quite what we thought either, and maybe even Tiste...

And another fragment of TCG. And is Greymane dead? Or is he being "held" by those arms he thought he felt?

I enjoyed it. (Oh, Dunsparrow and he had a big fight and went their separate ways, IIRC.)

Yeah, it was obviously Leoman. Not sure why he did that. It obviously wasn't to fool us. And it doesn't seem Leoman was trying to reinvent himself/start over, as we saw with Strings.

He didn't want Kiska to know who he was?

Just finished, and really enjoyed it. Looking forward to finding out what Ussu discovered about the Vow just before he died.
