Why do you think they call it bacon?Menolly wrote:Don't fry bacon, period.Vader wrote:Don't fry bacon naked.
Bake it.
Is there not great irony in the Watch's Jewish Mama providing definitive guidance on the preparation of that particular foodstuff?

My friend, Julie Beeler, wife of the founder and owner of Beelers Pure Pork is the ultimate Jewish mama who married in to the pork producing family. She is the definitive Jewish authority on that particular foodstuff.
...and is who taught me to bake bacon in the oven and heat my smoked hams in the dishwasher.

In the dishwasher?! How does that work? Wouldn't it make your dishes smell like ham?

First, you have to make sure the ham is wrapped in top quality cryo-wrap; it needs to withstand the heat from the water and not melt.Orlion wrote:In the dishwasher?! How does that work? Wouldn't it make your dishes smell like ham?
You place it in the dishwasher alone, on the top rack. You need the type of top rack that has the folding supports for cups and smaller plates so you can lay them flat.
Put the still wrapped ham on the top rack, close the dishwasher and run for two cycles without the heat dry. You only want the hot water cycles to run.
At the end of the second cycle, remove from rack, unwrap and glaze in the oven if desired. If glazing is not desired, check with an instant read thermometer that the ham has come to 140 degrees F. If glazing or needing to heat further to reach 140 degrees F once unwrapped, put in a 325 degree F oven until 140 degrees is reached. Remove and serve.
And I agree, Murrin.
Ham-scented dishes wouldn't be all that bad.
