I don't live in your house.

I'd noticed that.

But the answer still stands. You want to know what's wrong with me? Well, how much time have you got?

My kids (and admittedly myself) absolutely love Spirit, Stallion of the Cimarron. And it has a G rating.

Irreversible. Good family fun.

If you can't find that, Necromantic I or II might stand-in.

The Hobbit is PG? That's weird, I could have sworn it was unrated. <checks> Hmm, I can't find anything listing a rating for it.

As for Neverending Story, it suffered from the same problem ET did... people thought they were kids movies, but you need a certain maturity to appreciate them.

You could always go for a musical set. Guys and Dolls, starring Frank Sinatra and Marlon Brando, is great. In fact, the Godfather sings in it :) (Actually, I'm always amused by the fact that people associate the song "Luck be a Lady" with Sinatra, considering it was Brando who sang it in the show).

Most of the movies that I think of as "family friendly" aren't rated G... Seabiscuit, Field of Dreams, the Journey of Natty Gann, Never Cry Wolf...

The Incredible Journey is good... that is, the 1963 one. I never could get into the remake.

The two Chipmunk movies that came out; were both pretty popular in my house. Even the eleven year old was enjoying them.

There was a movie about a talking parrot -- "Paulie"? That one wasn't bad. I think it was G-rated.

Have we mentioned the old live-action Disney movies? "Flubber" and the original "Parent Trap" (starring Hayley Mills and Hayley Mills! ) and "The Love Bug" and "Mary Poppins" and that lot. Some of them are pretty dated, granted, but that kind of adds to the fun...

Thanks! I've been using that list. The school is pre-K through 5th. We're showing Ponyo tonight, could be a hit or miss. Might draw a curious crowd as many have not heard of it...

Beat me to it! :D

Can't find an american rating for it though. Some scenes might be a wee bit scary for young kids but is that not what kids love?

Oh, and second anything by Wallace and Grommit.

There is a TV show on an obscure cable channel that features film clips and reviews and critiques. They had a little feature on children's movies that are inappropriate for children, and this particular movie was high on the list. The dragon petting scene is unquestionably pervy when taken out of context. ;)

If rating allows, how about Kiki's Delivery Service? It is a charming kids' movie, despite the porntastic title.

edited to add:
Danlo, just checked at Amazon. Kiki is indeed a G.

Usivius wrote:many people have listed Disney movies, but for me, and what we showed our daughter growing up, were the Miazaki movies:
My Neighbour Totoro
Kiki's Delivery Service
Ponyo (as listed above)
The Return of the Cat (Studio Gibli)

The great thing about these movies is that they are great to watch with parents, fantastic imagination and imagry, excitement, AND, there are no 'villains'!... really ... them ovies are great and fun without having a typical 'Disney-style' antagonist.
We still watch these...
you missed "Spirited Away"
