A suggestion...I know this can be done,,but it takes serious techno-geeks to pull it off..a live web cast...Heck..every country that wants to have a revolution gets live Street images out and I was involved in helping out a fellow Lost fan keep his gear right as he " recorded" a LOST event in L.A. with a cell phone camera..cell phone to lap top to wifi to website to website link here. Something like that. How cool would that be??? Watchies..SRD...sayin Hi! to everybody!! Unfortunately..all I can do is suggest. I don't have the tech kno how nor the equipment, but perhaps know how and gear can be " pooled"..???
THOUGHTS???

I don't have a web-cam, I can't pay for one (I'm already stretched for the film crew)-this is probably something you need to talk to Romeo (SRD's webmaster) and I about through PM-we try to out of our way to protect Mr. Donaldson's privacy in anyway we can.

I have a webcam..Logitech..used for security watch on household when away. Do not have laptop nor tablet. With todays sophisticated phones, is a laptop even necessary? I don't kno!

privacy issues...uuhhmm..webcasts are kinda like one way..so..no difference between Watchies at fest and Watchies not at fest..SRD talks to Watchie crowd at fest, yes..SRD has website, yes..same thing..its just " Now" for the not there fans, instead of later. and yes, that means the webcast is more raw, unedited, unprofessional etc...so no real professional competition for the film crew. Cam is unobtrusive, smaller than a pack of cigs..Whats the difference if hes infront of 20 or so Watchies or infront of 20 or so Watchies he communicates with and a 100 fans he can't see or communicate with? Also..if SRD says " no"..okay, no it is for him. But howabout all us Watchies!!! For those who can't make it,,it' could be the next best thing.!! Hey! Danlo on YouTube!! You'll be STAR!! ..the next Internet SENSATION!!

I seem to recall that we talked about doing streaming video of the after-dinner session a 'fest or two ago, but it never went anywhere. Maybe technology has caught up with the idea...?

Dam it ali got in the freakin' way!!! :haha: *nervous laughter*

Yes and by that time I'd learn how to text and the camera would catch me falling down with my phone like the poor lady at the mall and I'd have to file a law suit against you. Sorry, didn't mean to be crass, I guess I'm going through growing pains-I've just done a lot of the organization myself in the past, even though people like Waddely, Menolly, Romeo and Jenn helped out with different things last time. We've talked about it before and I know how it's done and have a few very geeky friend who could help-I'm just nervous about approaching SRD and the logistics. (Not to mention the fact that part of my religion used to be never to appear on cameras-so what does that mean? I've sold my soul for Kevin's Watch?8O e-GODs!!).

But then again, only SRD has to appear...I'm simply concerned about his privacy...he's one of the last people who'd ever want a bunch of cameras thrust in his face. Then again we have filmed him and had plenty of flashes going off in his face during the last two fests. In the techno-driven world this is probably the next step. We could do a pod-cast, but that involves a lot of organization and timing...I like the idea but we'll have to approach SRD very cautiously and propose the ideal to him well in advance...

If the restaurant has an Internet connection (and where doesn't these days), it shouldn't be that big a deal to run a cable from the camera to a computer that could upload the pictures to the web. IOW, we may not even require a second camera. (Altho it might suck up all of the restaurant's bandwidth....) Ask the guys who are taping the session. They may know how to do it.

They do-they're a very professional company-but how do you setup a pod-cast, don't you have to have a website for that? Have Vain create another one? Have Romeo create one? This is a lot of work-we'll have to get moving.

I honestly don't think he'd mind: what's the difference between doing a panel discussion (or whatever) in front of a group of people and having a live broadcast of a Q&A?

(Sea, I think danlo's just nervous about asking him. ;) )

BTW, it looks as if Batty, at least, won't be joining me this trip. Magickmaker's still sort of undecided, but she may bail too -- it kind of depends on what's happening after commencement. We'll see.

I'll let Romeo do the asking-I always get fan-boy nerves around SRD, still...

What's the difference between streaming video and a pod-cast? They do require a website right?

I have every intention of going. Currently, I'm working on convincing two of my oldest friends to go as well. One of them is Bossk whom several seem to recognize here whenever I invoke his name. I sent him an email today about this and he said it wasn't outside of the realm of possibility. I'm not getting my hopes up, but he's been wanting to swing through the area this year, and might be able to make it happen.

The biggest one I can see is lack of editorial control. There's a point in the videos from eFest 2007 where it seems as though he turns and asks someone to turn the camera off. Maybe he didn't but it feels that way to me...right around the time he mentions not "playing an authorial trick on anyone"...if you record and then publish you can keep accidental stuff out...if you podcast there's no going back...

Streaming video is live; a podcast is recorded for downloading later. I believe that's correct, anyhow (and knowing this crowd, somebody will correct me if I'm wrong ). I suppose you could watch a podcast live, but I tend to think of them as things you download from iTunes or somewhere.

Yes, both would require a website for viewers to go to.
