A very interesting few posts above. Like Savor Dam, I think Darkdenubis stretches the facts a bit far in his sugestions re incest taboo in the Land and the filial relationship between Verement and Shetra. Vraith's analysis of the atempt to physically seduce TC seems closer to the truth to me although wasn't there a lead up to Elena's getting her kit off (for want of a better expression) in which TC was an active participant - ie the emotional seduction was both ways and had been proceeding apace for some while before Elena's overt act brought it to a head (poorly chosen words perhaps but..... ).

Just a comment a bit off topic on the idea that people 'grow to be like each other' over a long relationship. Environmentally influencing factors such as the same nutrition, the same living environment etc may have a small effect in this direction, but I believe it more stems from peoples often (but by no means always) expressed tendancy to choose partners that physically resemble themselves in the first instance. This coupled with the above 'lifestyle' similarities will account for the sometimes seen similarities between old couples. How the animals fit in - people simply empathise with animals that look like them.

Reading the Illearth War last year, I noticed an unusual expression - jot and tittle. I hadn't seen that used before, and when I made a comment about it in a different thread, I was told that it can be found in the Bible.

(Since then, I noticed SRD has used that expression again - in the Wounded Land)

Anyway, 'jot and tittle' was a term used in a passage where Troy's army is gathered outside Revelstone in preparation to begin the Forced March.
Try as I might, I kept seeing comedy in that scene, no matter how much I tried to block out the funny images.

For example: Troy turns to see Covenant and Elena preparing to leave on - not Ranyhyn - but, on two turtles. Troy is fuming. He thinks they are making fun of him.
Then some his warriors appear.
Not with swords, but with fishing gear, golf clubs, etc...
Troy is furious! But what can he do! He has a war to win!

Incidentally - 'jot or tittle' is not exactly a common, but certainly a well used expression in the UK - particularly by the older generation (which alas includes me ). The use may go something like "It matters not a jot or a tittle to me that my post is of topic - I couldn't care less!

( Only playing Kat, but this is how we might use that phrase - it sort of means insignificant, not worthy of note. Is this how Donaldson uses it?)

I'd have to see how it's used, but I usually seen it used as meaning "smallest, seemingly insignificant thing." Like saying not even the dots on the 'i's will be discounted.

Not sure exactly where it is used in The Wounded Land - somewhere after Covenant and company decend to the lower land, I think.
