A trip with my year seven kids to Hamelin, city of the Pied Piper. The tourist guide tells us, "In the year 1284 the Pied Piper led the children out of the town." One of ny kids puts up her arm and I fear for the worst - and rightly so.
"Are the kids still alive?"
The city guide raises an eyebrow, forces a smile and says "This has been over 700 years ago, darling."
My student "So what? It could be..."

Just today, philosophy class Year 11.
We're talking about Aristoteles's "Metaphysics" and the idea of ἀρχή - the prime course.
Inevitably the question arises "What was before the Big Bang?". I try to explain that time and space only came into existence after the Big Bang and before it there was no time and space (at least not coherent with ours) for anything to "be" in.
One kid looks up and says "But I read it has been scientifically proven that dinosaurs lived before the Big Bang."
After some confusion on my side it pretty soon becomes clear he thought the Big Bang was the comet that apparently hit earth and killed the dinosaurs ...

that happened cuz the comet wanted to make room for the mockumentary to evolve.Vader wrote: One kid looks up and says "But I read it has been scientifically proven that dinosaurs lived before the Big Bang."

the difference between evidence and sources: whether they come from the horse's mouth or a horse's ass.
"Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation."
the hyperbole is a beauty...for we are then allowed to say a little more than the truth...and language is more efficient when it goes beyond reality than when it stops short of it.

Haha! So the student was asking the question 'internal to the story'?Vader wrote:A trip with my year seven kids to Hamelin, city of the Pied Piper. "People without hope not only don't write novels, but what is more to the point, they don't read them.
They don't take long looks at anything, because they lack the courage.
The way to despair is to refuse to have any kind of experience, and the novel, of course, is a way to have experience."
-Flannery O'Connor
"In spite of much that militates against quietness there are people who still read books. They are the people who keep me going."
-Elisabeth Elliot, Preface, "A Chance to Die: The Life and Legacy of Amy Carmichael"
