How the hell are we supposed to choose only 10 from that list? Voted for SRD, Erikson, Heinlein, Herbert, Asimov, + Canticle For Leibowitz, and a couple others.
Should we put this in Gen Disc or Gen Sci-Fi for more views?
And Ali, I trust you'll post the results?

Mwa ha ha. Yet another topic enters my domain. Slowly but surely, Gen SFF will consume all...

Now, how about that "books you couldn't finish" thread?
...I know, I know - it belongs in General Literature, where no one will ever notice it.

I saw it! I saw it! Cannot unsee!
OK, I voted for both SRD books so I am a good loyal fan. Did not vote for Man Who since I never read it (should). Didn't even vote for GRRM, who will probabyl get first given the current fervor he seems to have going for him...?

I voted for:
1. TCOTC
2. The Gap
3. Mordant's Need
4. LOTR
5. Silmarillion
6. Hitchhiker's Guide
7. Prince of Nothing
8. Foundation Trilogy
9. Song of Ice and Fire
10. Illuminatus Trilogy
I'm not really sure if the last one belongs on the list of "best," but I had to vote for RAW. I also wanted to vote for Snow Crash, but I read it 20 years ago and don't remember much of it. Time for a reread.

Yea, I had to vote for the Ill. T. too. And I love Snow Crash...despite some problems with it, there's something very special about it. Neal never grasped that quality again.

Snow Crash spoilers:
My favorite scene in snow crash is the one where Hiro decides to take a shower, reflecting that he would love to take a shit and read magazines but that he doesn't have the time. I was so young when I read that that the idea of holding in your shit so you could shower for an interview with a "big guy" (the italian dude who runs the pizza mafia) didn't make sense to me. Naturally you shit first shower after, I thought!

Too many to choose from. I didn't spend a lot of time checking out the list, but I'm sure there are a lot of great books that didn't make the final choices.
It just so happens that a bunch of my favorites happen to be on this list, so I whittled it down to ten. I now realize I overlooked LOTR. Oh well, I'm sure it'll make the top ten regardless!
The Chrons of TC
Book of the New Sun
The Road
Cats cradle
1984
Gravitys Rainbow
Elric
Brave New World
Chrons of Amber
I am Legend

Amber
Covenant
Dune
LotR
Malazan
Once and Future King
Silmarillion
The Sparrow
Stranger in a Strange Land
Time Enough for Love
Why are comic books on the list? Why isn't Earthsea? I understand Neverness not being there, because not many know of it, but I sure wish it was.
I haven't read Prince of Nothing or Illuminatus yet. Only read the first of Rothfuss.

The list was generated by nominations from listeners, Fist. Then a "panel" went through the nominations, and put some series together while selecting one book from other series., as well as a few stand alone novels. Apparently nothing from
Earthsea made the cut, that I see.

Yeah, I understand. I just think it's got some big flaws. *shrug*

Earthsea is AMAZING. I mean, I never did finish the last one, but the first one alone is gr9. The battle against one's own shadow, that takes on the form of all one wants as the book goes on, is supremely epic and beautiful.

Still haven't read Earthsea, though I have the original trilogy. Sooo many booooks...

I voted, all three SRD nominees and some other fave books and then for an author I want to see get some love. Peter S. Beagle. And actually if you haven't read The Last Unicorn I highly recommend it. The movie was a seriously dummied down child version of what is actually a deep moving story with complex subplots and characters.

Crap -- you mean I'm gonna have to pay *attention*?

Sure, lemme go figure out when they're supposed to publish the results.
