Well, I've been waiting for someone to bring up masturbating before I do, but I guess it has taken long enough that I decided to be the one to toss that off.

Um, if you count that as a mundane task, then perhaps you shouldn't be doing that at all.
Just sayin'.

True. But I do have to admit that occasionally it is a mundane task, particularly when I am feeling non-creative. But mainly I was bringing it up in the "working with our hands" part of the thread title.

Thanks.

Agreed. Too bad the reverse doesn't really seem to apply any more. :/ I've met men who get annoyed at a woman who takes out an embroidery kit while watching TV.

It's like you can't possibly be listening if you're not making eye contact.
A female friend of mine once complained about a mutual friend who brought her knitting to a classical music concert. I guess it's more politically correct to nod off...?

My wife finds it almost completely impossible to sit still/pay attention if she isn't doing something with her hands.
Ruffled some feathers and required a lot of explaining/working out of misunderstanding after tatting at her first couple faculty meetings.
[am I repeating myself?]

that's a good point in those last couple of posts... seems like one little piece of our culture that should be turned around..
Wanted to add some of my mundane tasks...
mending little things by hand.. I actually like it when I'm doing it.
repairing my kids' books with tape
cleaning a toilet (provided that it doesn't have serious buildup)
cutting up fruit (something I've been known to avoid!)
not sure if I'm "supposed to" admit that I find cleaning a toilet satisfying

But I'm going for the chuckle here.

In the "working with your hands" category, I have to say that I LOVE working on my car. (Or friend's cars, if my own is not in need or repair or I can't afford that next oh-look-at-this-amazing {part name here} I want).
It can be very tiring and I have strained my back a few times, torn countless nails, and been burned on occasion, but I just love messing with things mechanical! Especially engines. Despite the hard work, I find I can get pretty "in the zone" with it. I don't want to stop, even when I have been at it all day & it's dark out. I feel so proud of the result!
I can fix a car better than all the men I know, including my dad. I do find this tends to intimidate or somehow insults guys, though.
Oh, well. It saves me tons of $$ on mechanic's bills!!

Haha, that is awesome...
I remember when I was a teenager, I'd get really excited installing new computer parts, and having the thing actually work... though I was more interested in the software stuff.
Glad you find fixing cars pretty interesting! =) I can't imagine thinking "oh that would be so amazing" about car parts the way I have about computer hardware or software, though!

Maybe it's about the same - Because I assemble my own computers, too. 3 so far. And I have a serious itch to do so again. I don't have the $$ for a full new build, though. So I satisfied myself recently by picking up a new all-in-one.

But, I dunno, I guess I like working on the car better because it's really more complex - more mechanical. I love boat engines, too. I will go on the Liberty Belle at WDW and spend the whole time looking to the inside of the boat at the steam engine instead of out at the water / island.

Huh? Surely it's cheaper to buy the parts and assemble it yourself than to buy a PC off the shelf?

Yah, Av, it is. But the "All-in-one" I am speaking of is a printer-scanner-copier-fax. I'm sorry, that's common usage here and I made the assumption it would be so pretty much everywhere.

Silly of me!
It was only $100.00 (with free shipping!) and it has a feeder, which my old one does not. I have been wanting one so I can scan statements and bills (in one file per month) and get rid of all the paper!!
And while it
is cheaper to build your own (esp if you know where to buy the parts!), please consider that my current system cost me $2K. So, if I get the itch to build a new one, it would have to outdo the current one. And that would easily cost an additional $2K (or more). And I
totally cannot afford that right now.
Yes, my computer heats up the room it's in within 15 minutes of being switched on...

Hahaha, you were talking about a rebuild, so I assumed you meant some type of computer.
