See that example also falls in a kind of in the grey area.
Is it a fail?
Failure in reasoning, judgement and general common sense.
The nit wit intended to steal the mower and make his get away on it so he accomplished his task right up to the point where he was caught.
I guess getting caught was the real fail in this case.
I'm thinking Worst Fail Ever might be something like Columbus never actually finding a westward passage to Asia.

Actually, the more I think about it, the Netflix/Qwikster debacle might be an excellent candidate for "worst fail ever." Talk about fixing something that wasn't broken.

At the risk of being very gauche, Moammar Ghaddafi begging his captors for mercy. If he had gone down as he lived- loud and proud- one could have almost respected that. Men responsible for huge numbers of murders and decades of repression begging for mercy? FAIL.
