One of the kids there had earned his admission by stealing a riding lawnmower and then using it as his getaway vehicle. See that example also falls in a kind of in the grey area.
Is it a fail?
Failure in reasoning, judgement and general common sense.
The nit wit intended to steal the mower and make his get away on it so he accomplished his task right up to the point where he was caught.
I guess getting caught was the real fail in this case. :-)

I'm thinking Worst Fail Ever might be something like Columbus never actually finding a westward passage to Asia.
The Chevy Chase show.
Betamax.
The first nut to freeze to death trying to climb Everest.
The Metric System in America.
Stuff like that.

Actually, the more I think about it, the Netflix/Qwikster debacle might be an excellent candidate for "worst fail ever." Talk about fixing something that wasn't broken.

I happen to think New Coke was an unparalleled success.
New Coke created a demand and desire for the original brand that catapulted Coke past the then front runner Pepsi and solidified my personal dedication to the soft drink for what will probably be the rest of my natural life. :-)

Every bat boy who doesn't grow up to be a Batman is a failure.

Is it Lacan who says that all fathers are failures? A transparent attempt to shift the blame on the father rather than the son, the prior rather than the antecedent...

See, LF? Your dad could have tried to move 1000 miles away on the lawn mower. Consider yourself lucky.

At the risk of being very gauche, Moammar Ghaddafi begging his captors for mercy. If he had gone down as he lived- loud and proud- one could have almost respected that. Men responsible for huge numbers of murders and decades of repression begging for mercy? FAIL.
