I still think my theory is correct, and in no way contradicts aTOMiC's theory. In short, I believe Obi-Wan, in his ethereal form, kept his presence close to Luke, and did things to help Luke, like alter the prceptions of the Stormtroopers, causiing them to miss Luke, Leia, Han, Chewbacca, and whoever else trying to help Luke; and giving critical advice to Luke, like getting him to use the Force instead of his X-wing's targeting system in order fo demolish the death star, and getting him to go to Yoda to complete his training.

my take on this, based on all the info in the 6 chapters is that no one, Jedi, Sith or others, had prevously conceived that anyone could come back as a ghost/spirit! C'mon, the fact that one could do this and interact to a certain point is pretty darn 'powerful'...!
In episode 3, it's Yoda that tells Obi-wan that (whathisface ... Liam Neeson's character) has managed to communicate from beyond the grave and would be in contact with Obi-wan about this! ....

Pretty freak'n powerful and useful if you ask me.

The fact that Obi-want tells this to Vader is a warning: "you don't know jack!"
Obi-wan uses this ability to guide Luke... it would be a different story if Obi-wan was not 'around' I think.

:)

Yeah. This only strengthens the notion that Obi-Wan Kenobi is one bad mo fo. He'll get you one way or another. Frankly hacking off three of your limbs in one movement is pretty dang impressive. I don't care who you are. Haunting you from the grave is just sick.

 well put.

I think the "Obi-wan is a bad Mofo" scene was in Ep. 3 when he jumps in the middle of all those bad guys aving a meeting with General Grevious and says, "Hello."

YAH! C'mon! The guy has 'cojones' the size of grapefruit! Beauty scene!

Abso-FREAKING-lutely. That was awesome. Obi stands his ground against the quatro cuisinart lightsaber suprise and proceeds to dismantle Grievous arm by arm. The guy just kicks the dung out of anyone. He seems like such a nice guy. That probably helps.
