I agree with a lot of these posts. There are annoying drunks, scary drunks, and others that are great to be around.

Drinking has probably been my biggest vice in the last decade or so. I almost always feel like it, and when I have a few I almost always feel like more. I participated in 'Dry July' last year - no alcohol for a month - and that thankfully helped a great deal. Another help for me has been how it affects one of my life long friends, who downs a 4 litre cask of wine in 2 nights. He has a tough life, and his coping mechanism is the booze - but how it affects him as a person is another reason I've cut back. He's no fun to be around after half a dozen wines.

I still drink regularly (especially compared to most replies here 8O ) - but i do have at least 2-3 alcohol-free days per week. And when I drink, it's not to excess - not as much as I used to anyway. I think I have a way to go before I feel that I don't need a drink, but a young family, and responsibility has gone a long way to helping that need.

I don't drink, mostly just because I never started in the first place.

Most of the time, I'm not a big drinker either, but I do rely on alcohol in certain situations, mostly as a trusted member of a painkilling arsenal. The disk in my back has bulged again at the moment and I am very grateful for the mathematical truth of the following equation:

Anti-convulsant neuropathic pill + 3valium + 3Russian Mules (vodka, fresh lime, ginger beer) = what shooting nerve pain and why is there a monkey doing the crossword at the top of the stairs?

Just kidding, I'm perfectly compesmentus. :P

In conclusion, I use alcohol selectively when required.

However, Avatar talking about daily joints does make me nostalgic for that blanket. But having just celebrated my 2+ years pot free anniversary, nostalgia is where that's staying!

Anyway.... Prost! Cheers! Gesondheid! فى صحتك:Aung myin par say! Salut! Biba! gān bēi !Na zdravi ! Skål! Kippis! Santé ! לחיים! Skál! Kanpai! Na zdrowie! Saúde ! Будем здоровы! Chok dee! Iechyd da! Sei gesund! AND BOTTOMS UP!

Although for some, wine is the infirmity.

I used to be a cheap drunk - about 3 Guinness got me fairly buzzed, and I'd be happy. Nowadays, I can drink about 6 and still not feel much. You learn your limit at a certain point, and then it changes. I'm still occasionally learning my limit. I've also found that one is enough to give me a headache the next day, which used to never be the case.

I used to be and still am. Two drinks is enough for me to start to be a bit drunk. Three and I'm really rather drunk. I remember (vaguely) the time I was with this guy who had some absinthe he got me to have a couple drinks of. We started off in a bar and ended up getting caught having sex on a hotell elevator by a maid. I was really out of it and sick the next day. I might have done the elevator thing anyway, but it would have been a lot more fun sober!

Ananda, you reminded me of something that happened about 3 months after I finally quit using drugs. I went to a club with a girl friend and we were boogying on the dance floor. At some point I had this conversation in my mind:
This is fun. I am having so MUCH FUN!!!

So how come it hasn't been this fun before? :?

Because I was always stoned before.

But I thought I couldn't REALLY have fun unless I was stoned. 8O

:hairs: I WUZ ROBBED!!!! :hairs:

Funny, I have the exact opposite experience in clubs.

hihi exactly, Deer. I always found doing the most crazy and sensual things was way more fun while sober. That guy was so silly- he didn't have to get me drunk at all. He was already interesting, funny and hawt. I didn't need more incentive. Wonder why guys think they need to get women drunk for that sort of thing? :P

I can only speak from personal experience, but I never found it to be a necessity to get a girl drunk. It's easier to get her to agree to stuff, but actually doing it is usually disappointing. :P A little booze to relax the tension can help though.

These days I have no chance if my breath smells of alcohol - my wife hates the smell, so if we're going have some fun, it has to be when (relatively) sober

i am usually pretty reserved and keep to myself. but when drinking i decide i am in the mood for love. in the past it has led to 'interesting' things happening.

now i have been happily married for 18 years.
