I didn't realize these pictures were nearly ten years old. Our trip was at Christmas 2003.

We walked one quadrant, more or less, of the circle at Avebury. That's Magickmaker on the left and Batty on the right. The short marker in the distance shows where a sarsen used to stand, before the local farmers carted it off for building materials and whatnot.
Image

We were there pretty late in the day, owing to a snafu with the car rental, and of course we got lost, too. You can see how long the shadows are (and how annoyed my teenagers are at me).
Image

Not the clearest picture, but you can see how the stones are bang up against the houses. The henge cuts through the village.

This stone seems to be iconic. I picked up a coaster and a mug at the gift shop, both with the image of this stone on it....

One more, for the Harry Potter fans. (I hear they've added a baggage cart since we were there.)

Yes, they have. Foamy had her picture taken with the luggage cart.

Lunch at the Berkley Hotel (Marcus Waring's needs to be booked) followed by the Victoria and Albert Museum, paying particular attention to the jewelry display and the clothes throughout the ages display.

Marcus Waring does the best lunch in London for £50ish and the museum is free.
