I was really hyped up for Matrix Revolutions, but was terribly disappointed. But my biggest disappointment ever was Gods and Generals. Gettysburg is just an absolute classic of a film, and G&G wasn't anything close.

Indeed, if a movie's so bad you have to forsake feasting your eyes on Catherine Zeta-Jones then it not just intolerable cruelty it's unbelievable cruelty. 8O :(

Don't flame me for it, but the Matrix sequels really let me down. I've seen the original well in upwards of 50 times and wont even see the 2nd/3rd movies more than once. They basically dropped out all the plot, philosophy, and character development from the first movie and turned it into a special effects flick- a good fx flick but still.

Strange thing about the Matrix sequels is that it seems as though they tried so hard to recreate the feel of the original movie that they tried too hard and completely ruined it. :/

For Willy to be disappointing, I take it you have to have high expectations of him. In that case, you deserve disappointment IMHO.

HAHA!! Great answer, emma!

Seppi2112, I agree with you and everyone else here about the Matrix sequels. No flames in sight. :) You've seen the original more than 50 times? And I thought I was a Matrix nut! It's a good thing DVD's don't wear out. 8)

If you got someone really high and told them that Johnny Mnemonic was The Martix Reloaded they might not be the wiser... :P

I was just being silly-I'm still tittering over SRD's comment in the Gradual Interview about Keanu playing Covenant, dude  I loved the first Matrix movie but thought Reloaded was a tad overdone. I need to rent it as I was in the loo during alot of the restaurant scene. In anycase it was a good "link" movie. I'll prob like it even better when I see the last film-prob will make more sense. I was a major cyber-punk freak way before the movies came out: William Gibson's Neuromancer, Johnny Mnemonic, New Rose Hotel, Burning Chrome, Idoru; Neal Stephenson, Watler Jon Williams, Bruce Sterling, Lucious Shepard etc...I was so desperate for good movies based on stuff like this that I even liked Virtual Reality with Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington. 8)

Serious word of warning: I tried to watch Charlotte Rampling's Swimming Pool last night-starts out boring then steps all over itself-some may like-not my cup o' tea, at all :(

A Beautiful Mind
The English Patient
Gladiator

They weren't too bad, they just didn't seem worth all the fuss to me. Expecially "A Beautiful Mind".

8O I can sort of see Gladiator--but it's really the size and spectacle of the epic. I thought it was well done. But the other two movies are just too good to put down. Maybe you have something against Russell Crowe? :?

I find A Beautiful Mind and The English Patient both awesome. A Beautiful Mind had to overcome my prejudice against mental illness movies, and did so without breaking a sweat. The English Patient was life-changingly therapeutic. Gladiator doesn't belong in their company, imo.

I liked Virtuosity enough to buy it on VHS. I thought the way the "justice" system treated Denzel's character was so unbelievable as to be dispicable, but I very much enjoyed the contest between Denzel and Crowe, and the effects were loverly. There are a couple of scenes that can still make me laugh when I think about them.

Would you believe it, I quoted Danlo's wrong title the first time and wrote my bit on it without even noticing I had changed the name. Didn't even notice it was wrong the first time. Got the idea, Danlo.

Since the 2nd and 3rd were clearly inferior to the original, as far as cohesion of philosophy and plot goes, I won't flame you. But I certainly disagree that they belong in a thread called "Most disappointing movie ever." I can't really say much about Revolutions, because I've only seen it once. (Come next Tuesday though... :D)

Reloaded, however, has got to be the best action and martial arts film ever! Absolutely stunning! And that's gotta count for something, neh?

OK, the philosophy wasn't as good as the original. They should have quit while they were ahead, but they overreached instead. I'm disappointed in some of the loose ends and unanswered questions. But still! The Architect's scene was SO much fun! In the original, Smith told Morpheus that there had been another matrix, a perfect one, but that it had failed because of its very perfection. Not only does the Architect give us a little more insight into that, but he goes on to tell us that there were four between that original matrix and the current one! And each had its own One! And Zion has been destroyed each time! Despite being disappointed by what we don't learn, I love all that! :D :D

And though I didn't think the Merovingian was nearly as brilliant as I think we were supposed to think he was, I loved his whole attitude. He was a riot!! :D
