StephenRDonaldson.com News wrote:THE KING'S JUSTICE and THE AUGUR'S GAMBIT (UK)

Orion/Gollancz has accepted THE KING'S JUSTICE and THE AUGUR'S GAMBIT for publication this fall (2015) in the UK. Their publishing strategy is new to me. They plan to release each novella as a separate book in what they call a "low cost" hardcover edition. Later--presumably in 2016--they will publish the two novellas together in a trade paperback edition. Who knows? Maybe it's a good idea.

I hope "low cost" isn't "crappy".

There seems to be a new market opening up lately for novella-length works, and a few publishers are exploring that. Tor.com, for example, has launched a novella imprint, mostly digital with, I think, a select number of paper releases.

I finally have the title Putnams is using for my two novellas. The book will be called "THE KING'S JUSTICE: Two Novellas." The other novella, of course, is "The Augur's Gambit." Despite the implications of the title, these two stories have nothing whatever to do with each other.

The bad news is that the publisher's may not let Donaldson have a title that reflects there being two novellas in one book.

"The King's Justice and Other Story" ?

I suppose we should be happy if we don't get a tĂȘte-bĂȘche!

Good to hear Donaldson is not yet done with writing. Not sure I can read a story told by an entrail reader.

Sounds like they just went with King Justice. But there's nothing wrong with tete-beche-books. I have a few of those. It led me to read a few tales I never would've found if I didn't search for their their companion. They're a marvel in old-school space and money - saving.

Geez. How can someone with so much talent be so lacking in imagination?

I guess he figures that if he paints them often enough, he might eventually be good at it.

Seriously... I don't think the man has ever seen a tree before...

Does SRD request this guy every time??? Does Palencar have some sort of blackmail dirt on SRD or the publisher???

Fair point. And neither did Palencar's ROTE cover - although some would say his horses don't fair better than his trees.

However, Palencar's book cover works do show such a predisposition for people-next-to-odd-trees that it's fair to call it "a thing".

(Palencar is very much a surrealist, in the vein of Dali, so the fairest thing to say of all is that his trees leak unexpected surrealism into what is otherwise expected to be a rather scene-from-a-book kind of art.)

Well, to be fair, he has imagination, but all he seems to imagine are trees. :D
