Because it's all about him.

Now, I'm not
that self-centred.

It's all about what I
perceive.

So at least you know you may be wrong?

Oh, I'm always open to the possibility.

Heh...I'm always sure I am wrong, at least in part. I know it, at least as much as I "know" anything.
I just also, at the same time, tend to think I'm LESS wrong than the peeps I'm disagreeing with.

Yeah well...I
might be wrong, but I tend to assume that I'm not.

More assumption checking needed more for this one, maybe, then!?
And as for vraith, given what you just said, do you find it often hinders getting anything done?
(Why I think it might for some people... well... I won't mention that just now!)

Not really. But I can see why you ask the question...aren't there dozens, maybe hundreds or more, people who've made a living or even gotten rich with self-help books/articles/columns/shows that always include the advice to
"STOP SELF-DOUBTING"
"You're good enough, you're smart enough, and doggone it, people like you"
And all the self-esteem stuff.
And those are real problems. For some people they can be as crippling as being blind and legless...
But I don't think it's a mind/thought problem of doubt...
It is an emotional/personality problem of doubt...
An individual can easily suffer from both.
Everyone needs some portion...but not too much...of both.
They are probably partially related/interconnected...but not necessarily.
Like: there are people who are spectacularly gifted with love and understanding of music, but incapable of learning to play an instrument.
There are people who can play anything they hear, on any instrument, instantly...but music is without any meaning/content to them.
Most of us have more or less some quantity of both.
Anyway, being wrong about thoughts/beliefs doesn't hinder me much.
I even gave it a label in a Lit. Theory paper/system I invented for a class: Passionate disinterest. [which I soon realized fails to get at what I mean by it...but hints in the right direction].
The other kind impedes me in some areas...and I think it is the flavor that impedes most people if/when doubt hinders them.
[and total lack of that second kind is a reasonable approximation of what a narcissist is...and good reason, from available evidence, to believe you are not one.]
