Off to Bruges for a few days so won't be posting for about a week. Look forward to some cutting edge posts when I get back!

a) Why are you going to Belgium of all places?
b) How's your Flemish?

It's a question I have asked myself Av

....... It's said to be Beautiful, and I can get to see a Michelangelo, a Bosch and eat in a couple of Michelin star establishments all within walking distance of my luxurious hotel (

). (Posting in that odd hiatus that occurs just before departure on ones hols

)

I suppose I've only been to Brussels, so perhaps not the best example of the beauties etc. of the country.
And the last time I was there, it was only for long enough to be deported.

Heh. This is GenDisc. That line of reasoning sounds vaguely appropriate for the Tank.

The Tank could probably use some bunnies. Or was it ponies?
Where's Frosty?

Well I managed not to get deported Av (tell us more by the way

) but agree, Brussels looked dire. Bugge was lovely though (or at least the historic centre, which I never left, was). Missed the Bosch altarpiece which was on tour, but did stare (with somewhat more prurient intentions than the respecrfull religious ones that would have been more appropriate, shame on me) into an ancient phial said to contain the blood of Christ. The Michaelangelo was beautifully, the van Eyck's stunning and the food heavenly!

Ah, the proliferation of relics.

No less than 30 "holy nails" are still venerated across Europe.
As for my deportation, it was all a silly mistake.

My grandmother, (a Belgian national) was in Brussels on holiday, and I was in London. She had intended to visit me, but suffered an accident and was departing home to South Africa instead. (Where she would undergo a hip replacement.)
So she sent me a Eurostar ticket, and I jumped on the train post haste to visit her prior to her departure.
Sadly, I neglected to secure a visa before doing so, and Belgian authorities were not best pleased at my attempt to, as they saw it, enter the country illegally.
I was incarcerated overnight, and shipped back to London first thing in the morning.
