THE WOUNDED LAND came out at the start of that decade, so there was something worthwhile to pay attention to. I was reading a ton, those years.

Okay dude. My favorite movie is, like, A Clockwork Orange. I thought that, since I chose Ferris Bueller as my favorite 80s movie, you would have deduced that I chose it not on quality but for its 80s flavor, as my true favorites consist of serious works.

I must say it highlights just how good the 70s movies were. Having said that there are a few excellent movies in there including one of my all time favourites Blade Runner but I don't see quite the class of the previous decade.

Yeah, couldn't agree more. There were some really excellent '80s movies, but US cinema was just not as good as it was in the '70s. Hong Kong cinema was becoming really great at this time, though.

There was a lot of crap in both decades, and a lot of good, and I think different genres were stronger in comparison. Thanks to far better technology, the thriller, the horror movie, and the action flick were all far better done in the '80s. Because of those limitations, I think that the character-driven drama was stronger in the '70s.

I also think that a reliance on that technology resulted in laziness in screenwriting towards the end of the '80s, that still lingers today.
