No other movie captures that 80s feeling better for me. It's the poooower of looohoooove...
I'm not talking about cineastic quality here.
Exactly!! Finally, somebody got it right.
Dudes, I was talking about movies with an 80s flavor. Ya know . . . Gandhi? That sure was 80s . . .

Gandhi is eternal.

My point exactly, so it's not 80s. The movie didn't have mullets, leg warmers, or even Bon Jovi!

I must have missed something. Like the 80s.
THE WOUNDED LAND came out at the start of that decade, so there was something worthwhile to pay attention to. I was reading a ton, those years.

Damn, I forgot to take my mind-reading pill!!! Yeah, I know, it's a stretch, but "Favorite 80s Movie"
could, conceivably, mean
favorite movie from the 80s.
I got your

right here, pal!

Fist! Fist, Fist, Fist! . . . Dude, Fist!
Okay dude. My favorite movie is, like, A Clockwork Orange. I thought that, since I chose Ferris Bueller as my favorite 80s movie, you would have deduced that I chose it not on quality but for its 80s flavor, as my true favorites consist of serious works.
*shakes head* Man, Fist. Dude.

Quite possibly John Boorman's Excalibur. If not that, I'd go for Kurosawa's Ran.

Most of my favorites have already been mentioned, but a few that haven't are Brazil, Birdy, Purple Rain, Pale Rider, and The Color Purple.

It's funny, I just clicked on this thread to add Purple Rain.
Great movie that I think requires a re-watch and a review......

I must say it highlights just how good the 70s movies were. Having said that there are a few excellent movies in there including one of my all time favourites Blade Runner but I don't see quite the class of the previous decade.

Yeah, couldn't agree more. There were some really excellent '80s movies, but US cinema was just not as good as it was in the '70s. Hong Kong cinema was becoming really great at this time, though.

There was a lot of crap in both decades, and a lot of good, and I think different genres were stronger in comparison. Thanks to far better technology, the thriller, the horror movie, and the action flick were all far better done in the '80s. Because of those limitations, I think that the character-driven drama was stronger in the '70s.
I also think that a reliance on that technology resulted in laziness in screenwriting towards the end of the '80s, that still lingers today.
