One of the commentators spoke in dramatic and thought provoking terms of the effect it must have had if it came upon you unawares in times of old - how terrifying it would have been not understanding it's 'message' or not knowing if the sun were ever going to return. It must have invoked fear to equal measure that it now invokes wonder. :)

Alas we in the UK will have to wait until 2090 for our next viewing by which time I shall be 134. Here's hoping I can find my cardboard eclipse glasses after all that time; I struggle to find my car keys the following morning let alone after 74 years! ;)

I was jealous of my relatives back in the state of Missouri who got to be in the path of totality. (Here in Alpine, Arizona, I had to be satisfied with viewing a partial eclipse through a very dark filter.) But at least the family was nice enough to post pictures of the total eclipse for me on Facebook. 8)

Will you be anywhere near totality for the next one Hurn?

Doubtful, peter. Which next total eclipse are you referring to?

It's going to pass up through a huge swathe of Mexico, the USA and Canada in April 2024 - not so long I eclipse waiting terms! Hope you get totality close to you for that one :)

Thanks, peter! Living as I do in a US state that borders Mexico, I might be able to make that one! :)
