So did Pete just drop off the edge of the flat earth?

No, I've no head for heights - I never go near the edge!

hahahahaha
I used to be a rock climber & abseiler.
Climbed some of the best Australian climbs: In Arapales, Blue Mountains, the Grampians. Cliff faces, overhangs and chimneys up to 20m and all the while fearing heights lol

Had one go at it as a youth. Froze halfway down a really easy climb and never did it again. Horse for courses and all that.
(Was however a good rider, and still reckon to gallop a thoroughbred horse on a flat beach is one of the best sensations this world has to offer!

Yeah, heights never usually bothered me while climbing...too focused on the rock in front of my nose.

Friction boots? How long ago did you used to climb? :p
They're just called climbing shoes now. Or rock shoes.

Do you still climb Av? I recall a picture in the photo gallery of you abseiling over the edge of a building or something. Makes me shiver to think of it - though I have an idea that I might actually have done it as a schoolboy many years ago. I certainly remember being on the edge, but the rest is a blur............

Ah, been a bit lazy these last few years Peter.

Been chatting to the GF about starting up again recently actually though.
Technically that pic on the building was rap-jumping. Like abseiling, but face-first. There's also a pic in there somewhere of me abseiling off a cliff, and one of me topping out on a steep pitch.
Not quite as fit as we used to be though.

The guy that instructed me is in his ... no must be nearly 80 now and still climbs. Truly amazing! Yeah I still call them friction boots .. I started when I was 16 - 30s and pretty much not climbed seriously since then and I'm 56 now... so yeah definitely a few years ago. Though this friend lives 1800kms away I know he'd be stoked if we could get together and go climbing. However, like you I'm NOT as fit as I used to be .. by at least a country mile. LOL

and postural hypertension knocks me about a bit .. and my legs are no way near as strong .. meh ... but I'm always up for a challenge...
Like a few years back we took a young asian girl that ended up living with us for 6 years (15-21yrs) - to one of the many awesome parks here in the ACT.. she wanted a shot of a koala .. I stepped up, as you do, ... and said "no worries I'll get that shot for you love" .. and proceeded to climb a gum tree to get a really good shot .. you know how its done

.... right?
Yep I was up there ... for oh .. a good .. 5 seconds before I fell out of the tree flat on my back and I swear the earth shook (at the shock!!) .. Well we were both shocked!! (the earth and I, mostly at the affront)
I am a grandma!!!
Personal limitations are something I've never really come to terms with, you know exercising common sense, doing things in moderation, .. whatever you want to call it

lol .. Its why I had... and have problems with Watch-visiting .. lol ..
Though nowadays .. I tend to pop by in the middle of the day when I dont have anything on .. thats manageable. I have been avoiding all the really meaty threads because I can become easily over invested. So for now I stick to the fluff threads - you know the Tank, the Close etc..... hahaha just joshing .. you know the ones
And I'm not sure... I'll ever truly grow up

its a blessing and a curse
