Though it can't be done right now, I, also, would very much like to see a dissection of the Gap Sequence in the future. Different people catch different things... and I'm always curious to see what I've missed.

Wow! You didn't like those? I loved the Ancillary Documentation chapters! To me it was the only time when SRD could show some humor. There were also some powerful passages in there too.

And, I just really love the techie stuff. :D

I liked the interludes too. The best were the Amnion ones, especially the first contact one. They really set the theme of the following chapters and helped you understand the setting without having the usual forced description.

Yes, they do serve that useful purpose, and I'm glad he set them aside in special chapters like he did. I even enjoyed some of them: the social histories, about the gangs, and about how the UMC and UMCP became what they did, and I love the one about chaos vs. order.

I wouldn't be any good at analyzing the likelihood of the gap drive or any of that. I can barely concentrate on them. My secret theory is, that's because the scientific "reasoning" doesn't make any sense. But that may be wishful thinking.

I think Donaldson once said he pretty much avoided research for his ideas. Stuff like the Matter cannon and the Super Light Proton cannon don't make scientific sense.

Besides, trying to explain how it would work goes against the grain of fantasy, where it works just because it works, and SRD's main forte is fantasy as opposed science fiction.

Well, I don't have any trouble understanding when Asimov explains a scientific theory. Most of those are at least grounded in reality.

So I'll just let fiction be fiction and serve its fictional purpose, without trying to make sense of it. Even if it does mean skipping over an Ancillary now and then.

You can't get the series in Canada? 8O

Yah, you can. (I'm in good 'ol T.O.).
Granted, I bought mine as they came out in hardcover, but i have been tempted to by paperback versions (easier to read on the subway). The the Canuks who can't find it in their local bookstore, go to chapters.ca and order it. If you spend more than $25.00 (i think) shipping is free.

I'd give my :2c:. I have read the GAP books a few times now.
But I agree with waiting until other dissections are completed.

That's fair. I hadn't realized there were any currently.

I own The REal story, read the rest from the Library.
_but no, the only bookstore that sells new books around here is a Chpaters, and unless it's currently on the Bestsellers list, Chapters doesn't sell it.

I Baught all my SRD (Except LFB) from used bookstores, after I read the library copies..I just haven't found any GAP books out there (new or used)
