How do you pick just one? SRD is a master of heartbreak.....

The slaughter of the giants is probably the absolute worst.
The burning of Revelwood
The look on Atiaran's face as she turns with her broken spirit back to her broken life
The wounded Ranyhyn trying to rear
Trell's ritual of desecration
The memory of children at Soaring Woodhelvin
Tull's momentary spasm of grief
Covenant's desperate, rejected attempts to make human contact; at the tent revival and at the bar
THE ENTIRE WOUNDED LAND
Sunder's story of the fate of his family
Fire that consumes wood
The death of Caer Caveral, and the subsequent rape of Andelain
What Oath of Peace?
Ceer, Seadreamer, Honninscrave, Hergrom, Hamako......
The desecration of Revelstone

And on, and on, and on.....

Eh, you're all wrong. The saddest point of the whole series, so far, comes right after the sentence:
Spoiler
With her nght hand, Linden Avery kept a sure hold on
her wedding ring.

What about Bannor at the end of TPTP? The state he was in at the end there, when he still hadn't forgiven himself or the rest of the Bloodguard...

And then of course there's the typical "Entire Wounded Land" thing...and Foamfollower's death...and TC's death...bah!

You know...TC's death in and of itself wasn't the worst part...the worst part is that in the end he couldn't avoid "the prophecy of his leprosy."

And you know what? Linden should have died in his place! I never did like her...

Exactly!

This is why I have such a hard time even reading the 2nd Chronicles. It destroys everything that you had enjoyed from the 1st Chronicles. You think the rape of Lena was bad, This is the rape of the land! I couldn't stand it. I read the 2nd chronicles once and I hated it. It was like going to see kids in a cancer clinic for kicks. It was just wrong.

That's how I felt, too. It was too painful to see the Land raped. All the beautiful life destroyed.

I have to say the saddest part of both trilogies is Nom's unfulfilled dream of being a cabaret singer;)

Seriously though, the Giant's massacre by Giant Ravers was pretty tough to take.

This was a tough question. But caamora said something in another thread that reminded me of what I think is the saddest part.

At the end of The Power That Preserves, when Foul's Creche is tumbling down. Covenant snaps Foamfollower's bonds to give him a chance to escape, fully realizing that he can't possibly survive.

So although it was never described, I'd say "the death of Foamfollower".

there were a lot of sad parts but the only part I literally wept incessantly over was the end of WGW

The death of Lord Hyrim son of Hoole,
Do not-do not touch-take-
The death of Lord Verement Shetra-mate,
Because you have killed Shetra my wife! Because I have been unworthy of her all my life! Because I do not fear you, Raver! I am free of all restraint! No fear or love limits my strength! I match you hate for hate, moksha Raver! Melenkurion abatha!
The death of Grimmand Honninscrave,
For an instant, his eyes gazed towards his companions and yearned as if he wished to say farewell - Wished poignantly that at the last he had found some way to go on living.
The death of Hollian,
The eh-Brand looked pitifully small in death, valiant and fragile beyond endurance.
When Atiaran Trell-mate leaves Thomas Covenant,
If I gave up I would stab you where you stand!
The deaths of Lord Variol Farseer and Tamarantha Variol-mate,
They are dead. Variol and Tamarantha, my parents - mother and father of me, body and soul.
The silencing of Llaura, Heer of Soaring Woodhelven,
Abrubtly, Llaura seemed to collapse. Clutching her throat with her free hand, she shrieked. 'You must hear me!' and started to fall.
The parting of the Quest for the Staff of Law and Saltheart Foamfollower,
It may be that hope misleads. But hate - hate corrupts. I have been too quick to hate. I become like what I abhor.
They will just keep coming until this post devours all others, Fist. :D
