Empire Strikes Back came first. Is Mr. Miyagi derivative? Possibly. But he's archetypal. I know I couldn't argue with "wax on/wax off" anymore than I can argue with "When 900 years you reach, look as good you will not."

Lots of people on this board seem very tired of this argument, so they probably do find the comparison between SRD and JRRT odious. That doesn't mean comparison isn't possible, or useful. I was also just being lazy and quoting a proverb. :D For a good example of an odious comparison, try John Donne's Elegy VIII: www.luminarium.org/sevenlit/donne/elegy8.htm It's nasty, full of "menstrous boils" and "frothy sweat" and "a worm sucking an envenom'd sore." And written by a guy born in 1572.
Halfway down the stairs Is the stair where I sit. There isn't any other stair quite like it. I'm not at the bottom, I'm not at the top; So this is the stair where I always stop.
