OOohhhooboyoboyoboyoboyoboyoboy....

Post by Findail The Appointed »

Just came in the mail. I was actually shaking as I was opening the package. Perfect timing. Just finished WGW last night.
I promise not to say a word unless asked and then I guess only by PM.

Here we go....!
"Let those who sail the Sea bow down;
Let those who walk bow low:
For there is neither peace nor dream
Where the Appointed go.

howdy everyone, been a bit busy, having new babies, working etc, no excuse but there you go,. There is now more beauty in the world!

About getting a proof copy before Runes is published...it's really tempting, but isn't it like getting pirate DVD of a film you want to see at the cinema? Whilst I'm busting to read it, I'm really looking forward to going and buying the hardback and flicking the pages. Yes you can still do it if you've already read it, but that's not the point is it? It's like that sickening feeing you got as a kid if you found some of your Christmas presents hidden in your Mum & Dad's room. You still looked for them and ripped the corner off the wrapping, but how much did you wish you hadn't??

Same with spoilers, sooo tempting to read them.......

Now I'm off to ebay,,,.... ha ha!

It wasn't like that at all... I've waited a LLOONNGG time for this book. :)
The presents under the bed sucked because even though you knew what you were getting, you couldn't get it until X-mas... I truly couldn't wait any longer. I re-read the Chrons twice this year and was just finishing up WGW and saw a decent price for one, so I saw it as "fate"...
like getting pirate DVD of a film you want to see at the cinema?
The difference is that these copies are not pirated. They are freely given and surely expected to end up in the hands of collectors. Either way, I have no regrets ;) Except perhaps that my wait "between books" is prolonged somewhat. Any word on a date for that one?

(Damn I could make a great comment here, but I am bound by the laws of the spoiler

Having said all that Fin, I've since been on ebay and I'm sorely tempted to buy one, purely for collectability's sake you understand! Obviously I'd wait to read it??!!

Like you too, I've waited 20 years, being a mere nipper when I first read them. Isn't there a risk that the proof copy is different to the final published product though? Not being an expert on these things, I wouldn't know. But if it's a proof, then surely it can't be the final approved version.(?)
I guess there's a certain appeal of the rough first pass copy though....
IF I succomb and buy one, I'll let you know though

For one thing, there are no maps in the ARC. (I'm pretty sure that doesn't qualify as a spoiler!) For another, it isn't the final corrected text; there are likely to be a number of differences in detail between it and the published work, to say nothing of typos. At this point, interesting as the ARC is, I'm saving my pennies for the real edition. Heck, I'm not going to have time to read it until October, anyway.
