Are fans camping out and lining up at theatres yet? :P

One of my favorite Insult Dog bits is when he's interviewing these SW fans and he asks them "What was the substance that Han Solo was frozen in?"

The fans yell out "Carbonite!!" and he says:

"No, the correct answer is, "Who gives a sh*t?"
Attack of the Clones was a great movie...the acting...the directing..it was the Best movie.....

Doesn't have the same ring as "The Empire Strikes Back", IMHO.

But is that because it's so well established that we don't notice anymore? This has occurred to me before. If you sit and think about a new film being given a title like that, it seems quite unweildy, IMO.

Yes, but that's intentional. All that Flash Gordon stuff from the Fifties was part of the inspiration for Star Wars. Lucas is just paying homage.
Are you sure? I thought he was just being rubbish.

-From the George Lucas Companion by Howard Maxford:
As the young George grew up, it was the Saturday morning serials that would prove to be of main interest to him. Both at the cinema and on local television, his favorites being Tailspin Tommy and Flash Gordon--the sci-fi elements of which would have an effect on his later career.

Thus, taking his inspiration from Flash, he sat down and began to research where the superhero's creator, Alex Raymond, had got his own ideas from.

He also took note that Flash Gordon had two sidekicks, one male (Dr. Zarkov) and one female (Dale Arden). The planet Mongo meanwhile helped to inspire a setting, while the nefarious deeds of Ming the Merciless gave him a few ideas concerning a chief villain.
And here's something to look at:

Image

LEFT: Cloud City from Flash Gordon. RIGHT: Cloud City from Empire Strikes Back.

Other Flash Gordon influences on Star Wars include: the idea of Rebels vs. Imperial Forces, the soft wipes between scenes, and the underwater city with a manta-ray shaped sub.

Am I the only female Star Wars fan? :(
I feel alone, deprived, neglected......................but, does that mean I get Ewan all to myself? just kidding.
Revenge of the Sith is an OK title. Sort of, well, obvious though. I don't really care about the title, just as long as it is a good movie! It had better be good!!

Lucas... sigh, a once brilliant director of American Graffiti, THX-1138, and the Indiana Jones trilogy and the ORIGINAL Star Wars... finally fell into the black hole of "I'm so great people will be SUCKERED into watching anything I make!"

Gads... someone loan me one Billion dollars and I'll remake the Prequels myself to where they make sense and it won't have no DAMN JAR JAR BINKS IN IT!!!!! :x

I see that many people are talking about the influences of Star Wars, go out and watch "The Hidden Fortress" by Akira Kurosawa much of the film is based on that story.

The opening scene of Hidden Fortress shows two homeless men wandering in the desert, cursing each other and calling each other names, then they end up spliting up only to be captured by a common enemy later and then etc..... you get it, C3P0 and R2D2.

Anyways, despite his obvious rip offs, which all directors do to some degree, he has put out some amazing films, the Indian Jones Trilogy is brilliant, and so is THX-1138.

THe thign is, no matter what he does, critics and purists will complain, but its really his vision and up to him to do what he feels is right, we may not agree with it, but its really his work, and his masterpiece, cheers.

Well the fact that the (new) trilogy has gone hell and far away from the original one shows the evidence that Lucas did not initially write and concieve of Star Wars.
It's like telling a lie and then having to tell it again years later ... it's not going to be the same lie because you can't remember exactly how you said it first time.
I can see how Lucas could have gotten the idea and the big picture from someone else and then turned it (twisted it is more accurate description) to his own (warped) sense of style.
The original series was going JUST fine... then this new set... what the hell was he thinking?? :?:

I think he wanted to tell the rest of the story of Anakin, which is what Episodes IV-VI are about in the first place. I for one am glad that he is telling this story.

Well might as well post this... another discussion forum I'm on had a guy who released this URL www.millenniumfalcon.com/ it has screen caps of the duel between ANNIE and Obi-wan. It also has a discussion board... thing is it is not for kids as there is language not to be found here on it. Just FYI...

What? You're not a member?

Actually, I saw it through AOL. I would download and send it to you but I can't figure out how, since it's in QuickTime. Any suggestions?
