Very much! And I'm not fond of Linden's cursing! It's "incondign" in the Land. SRD writing style has either "aged" or it's a deliberate change. In the GI, he's said that he sees in words, that developing detail descriptions that appeal to the senses is an excrutiating effort on his part. Perhaps that statement also relates to the change.

There is some belief that this is a deliberate reflection of the content of the book. As Kevin's Dirt and her obsession blinds Linden to the Land and her own lack of wisdom, so are the readers likewise blinded to the beauty of what's around her. And these bronze age Stonedowner oafs and absurd Haruchai are hardly worthy of being saved, we and she might easily conclude.

I'm beginning to think that in Linden Avery we're reading a retelling of the story of Kevin Landwaster. The fact that it's called Kevin's Dirt may well be a clue to that. We have yet to learn where it came from -
Spoiler
Kastenessen seems the most likely culprit given what Foul said, but why I can't guess.

Could you cover that whole post, please? This topic tends to be frequented by people who haven't read the whole book yet, or even any of it. Of all the places in this forum, I think this is the one topic that could do with having the spoilers concealed. Thanks.

Shees, its just like the early 80's all over again.

it still hasn't sunk in that I'm going to have to wait so long for the next one...I'm still pondering Runes. Of course, since technically Runes hasn't been officially released, I still have plenty of time for the wait to sink in!

Finished it last night. Reviewed this forum, which I'd avoided up till then, and made a few first reaction posts. Now it's time to dissect it a little. :)

I finished the book last week, Read like a psychopath possesed by a Raver. Remember the kid in the old movie Never Ending Story, felt something like that.

Now to say the least. I wish I would have savored it. Read bits and pieces here and there. The occasional time outs to the "Porcelain God" mayhap would have sufficed for the proper pro-longed intervals.

Now I'm going through withdrawl! I havent seen it posted on here and looked it up on the net for some vast knowledge.
So I'm going to ask.......

Anyone know when the second book (Final Revenant) is to be released? Any rumors or what not? Catch a whisper?
:x

Someone in this forum asked him how far along he was with Fatal Revenant when he was at a book signing. He answered that he was not far along, but that he would really get to work when he was done with the book tour.

Well, here I am!!! I've finished my FIRST reading of RUNES. I can't explain my mixed emotions. I loved it, that is certain. Mr. Donaldson didn't disappoint, and I knew he wouldn't. So MUCH happened in this first book. So much is hinted at and eluded too, what a fantastic setup to the rest of this glorious story!!! I won't say much more in this thread, I just thought I would start here, since this seems to be the place to announce the acquiring and the finishing of the book (this is my first sojourn into this forum).

I'll add this tho...

Linden!! Girl!!! :yourock:

I'm not very far into the book at all.  My little son has been very sick this week :( , and everytime I get a few minutes to myself, I have been nodding off. But he's getting better (or I wouldn't be here this afternoon), so maybe in a day or two I will be clear headed enough to read. 8)

I'm beginning to think my Runes read is cursed. :( My younger son is beating his staph infection, and is beginning to feel a lot better. So, this morning, my older son tripped and fell down some stairs, got to spend half the day in the ER, and will be on crutches for the next two weeks. :( But at least they think his ankle is sprained instead of broken. :!:

It's been a bad year for ankles. I took a tumble in the parking lot of the restaurant where we met SRD, and now have an ugly scar on my left ankle...much more seriously, my younger son's infection is on his left ankle, and he will probably have some scarring from it...now its my older son's turn (and its his left ankle, too)...

I have only read about half of Runes, but is there any serous left ankle problems in it involving any important characters?

Not that I can think of. But that Red Sox pitcher's having ankle problems. Maybe your family's watching too much baseball!
