Ringo was on Jonathan Ross's chat show last week and they actually talked about that quote, it was John that said it but it was really a throwaway comment that has been blown out of proportion over the years.

Ringo effectively said that he was one of the best drummers in the world, which I think is pushing it a bit, but he's not as bad as a lot of people make out.

I would also like to point out that George was insanely talented, but seemed to have kind of a Brando complex. Of course Ringo would never interfere with what he wanted to do, Ringo had no ideas of his own.

It's a Spoonerism - and a very funny one!

Spoonerism? *sigh* I have never fealt so much like an ocean stood between us.

Transpose the first letters of the relevant words... in this case, 'bucks' and 'feet'.

Oh, now it becomes more clear. I still have no Idea what a chiropodist is, and what it means to have something "buck your feet". That is where I believe being American comes in.

Or maybe I am just a naive little boy. wouldn't be the first time I simply have never heard a word before that is fairly common.

What the heck--? Did this thread turn into an anti-Ringo spiel? I thought we were here to celebrate our favorite drummers, not dump on other member's favorites. If people want to voice their thoughts on drummers or other musicians they hate, then a "Least favorite musician" thread should be created for that purpose. And no thanks, I'm not going to be the one to do that.

A chiropodist is the same thing as a podiatrist, i.e. a foot doctor. A foot docor could be said to make your feet healthier, or 'buck' them 'up' (as in "buck your ideas up, sonny!" which is, admittedly, a bit British). It's not really the important part of the joke, though. I didn't include the rest because it would make a rude word.

Hmm, Now I remember spoonerism, that was just ignorance not to catch that one. It is just really hard to see the joke when you have no idea what the content means. It just gets read as gibberish by me.

In America, we always call them Podiatrists always. (I think) I have never heard the word Chiropodist before. While not knowing what Bucking something up means may not be important to the joke, It is still just hard to see even something as simple as spoonerism in a completely alien phrase.

Anyway, I feel a little vile over being so defensive over something so insignificant, I just look back at the thread and see myself coming off as a moron. Ah well.

Being a drummer my self I really like Ringo Star. Even though he was part of the Beatles I still like him. My second favorite is the guy (can't remember his name) from Slopknot, he is nuts.

It's inconceivable that nobody listed Buddy Rich!

And if you want living master...Marvin Smith (smitty), he's a session Jazz drummer, and (as far as I know) still the drummer for Jay Leno's tonight show band.
As far as Rock drummers Jimmy Chamberlain of Smashing Pumkins is mind blowing...and Mike Portony of Dream Theater is in a league of his own. Carter Beauford of Dave Mathews Band can lay some some really awesome licks too. Matt Cameron (Soundgarden/Pearl Jam(later years) and Temple of the dog) Does some amazing odd-time playing

It's a very difficult thing to judge sometimes though..I used to think that
Matt Sorum (Guns n Roses/the Cult/Velvet Revolver) was just okay...a run of the mill drummer, until I heard him playon the Buring For Buddy CD---he's right up there!!

ps-anyone who loves drumming HAS to get that CD (Burning For Buddy)
