Just me and the camera. I thought about bringing my baby ..... he loves riding in the car .... and eating .... but the diner probably wouldn't like a 130lb male rottweiler (even tho he is cute and cuddly!!)

My relief was late this morning, so I'm running late. It looks like I'll probably be there around 12. No later than 1, I hope.

Hey, wait a minute!
Actually, they *did* serve Aliantha at the diner! And Romeo, and Creator, and the High Lord, too!
We had a great time (Caer was late and may or may not have made it); both Creator and Romeo took pictures, so I guess you'll see our shining faces on the web shortly. (Good thing it's not up to me. I'm hopeless when it comes to this technical stuff. I had to ask Edge how to load my new avatar...)

The bruch was great - thanks to Romeo for picking up the tab and thanks for aliantha and jay joining.
Unfortunately Syl didn't make it.
We had great discussions and good laughs and a little presentation to Romeo:
[thanks to the ever creative Edge for helping with the certificate.]
I've posted pictures under the Moteley Crew - titled "DC Elohimbrunch." Even the ones that for some reason won't display thumbnails will load if clicked on.
It nice to meet online friends in person. Romeo will be posting a group photo.
[Hope we took enough for you Duchess!!!]

It was a great time - thanks again for the award!
I'll get the group pic posted in the same place right away.
Jay and I waited for Syl until about 1:10, then I ran Jay home. But I swung back around to see if he was still there having something to eat (which is likely if he arrived just after we left). Didn't see anyone toting books, though - and there was noone there alone.
Syl - PM me your address, and I'll send you a couple things (and some gas money to help cover the trip).

Well, I finally got home. Murphy's law, guys. That's all I can say.
First, the guy who was supposed to relieve me on watch on the ship was late, so that set me back. Then I had to wait for the wife to get ready (it was my understanding that she'd be ready to go when I got home). Then there was traffic. I got there a little after 1, but I couldn't find anybody. Walked around a few times... I asked the people working there, but they were clueless except for the guy who was the host who said that you all were sitting in this corner booth, but you left.
Oh, yeah, and I tried to call the diner to let you guys know I was on the way. Again, they were clueless. I tried to tell them I was going to be meeting my party there, and if they could find the folks from Kevin's Watch to tell them I'd be there shortly. A few minutes later somebody picks up the phone.
"Hello?"
"Hi, who's this?" I say.
"Brian," he said.
"Brian from... where?"
"From the Silver Diner,"
"Oh, I was on hold waiting for one of your people to tell my party that I'd be a little late."
"We don't do reservations, sir,"
"No, I mean, they're already there. I'm supposed to meet them,"
"Do they know you're coming?"
"Yeah, but I wanted to tell them I'm going to be late,"
At this point he says something kind of intelligible and just sits there on the line for a few minutes.
"Ok, fine, but if anybody asks, just say Syl will be there soon,"
"Uh, ok"
"Thanks, bye." (all this while driving in backed up traffic and rain)
Yep. So then we go to the mall, grab a quick bite to eat before going back. Find out there's a nail in my tire.
Oh, yeah, and my wife lost $20 at a gas station.
ARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGG.

We're doing it again in a couple of weeks, when I bring back the (signed) books from WFC. So we'll have a chance to do it right this time. Everyone has my cell phone number now, right?
So what do we call it?

Works for me! Looking forward to it!
And Syl -- you know what they say about Murphy: He was an optimist.

Sorry you had such a rough trip for nothing. We missed you! (I've done that DC-to-Norfolk run myself numerous times. My best time was about two and a half hours. But if traffic on 95 is bad, or if some idiot gets a flat in the bridge-tunnel, it can take all flippin' day.)

All they did for two hours was beg me to ban Darth. It was quite silly.

Every time I make that trip, I swear I'm going to find a way that avoids 64 and 95 (the tunnels I can't do anything about, tho 664 is usually the safer bet). I too once made it in 2.5 hours, so for some reason, I always think it's going to take me that long to get there.
But hey, next time has to be better, right?

Great pics, guys. Be sure not to tick

take your head.

Hey!
Thanks for the pictures!
Damn, Syl-
it's as though the Despiser himself was set against your being there!
