Murrin mentioned an upgrade for the programme coming out soon that would allow sub-forums within other main forums. When this happens, we could at least separate the three chronicles out. Separating ech book might be hard, especially if you are discussing a character such as Vain, or Mhoram, who appears across all three books in a particular chronicles.

Several weeks ago I PM'd Vain requesting that he add an option to the "post since last visit" selection. Specifically, I'd like to see the ability for members to EXCLUDE specific forums from their use of this command. That way, those who haven't read Runes can still get the value of the "last visit" selection, and have any sensitive areas omitted.
Vain doesn't seem to have much free time for Board changes but I will update our Forum when I receive a response.
In the meantime, please be sensitive to potential unintended effects as you post a title. Those of you who have current titles. Please edit where you believe appropriate.
Thank you all for helping!

Hi everyone.
I decided to stay away, and came back last week or so. I just read what people have been writing here, since I was away - all warm and fuzzy. Now I'm sorry for b****ing.
I have to tell you that staying away sucks. The worst was not keeping up with the Land Dissections as I've wanted to. For what it's worth, you all should know that suggesting people stay away from the Watch is like suggesting that they take off their ears for a week.
Sadly, giant avatars haven't gone the way of the dodo while I was gone.

Yeah, it's rough.
There's a BattleStar Galactica newsgroup that I can't go anywhere near because the new TV series is already playing in England but doesn't start in the States until January. And it's driving me crazy!

I think one thing folks might try and do is not get on the discussion list until they have finished Runes (this is what I did). Obviously if someone is acting malicious inorder to essentially spam the list with spoilers, there is not much one can do. My sense, is however, this is not the case (re: subject lines etc.). Hang in there, read the book, jump into the discussion.

I'd like to ask this without sounding like I am being cross. On the subjust line for the topic, it reads "EXPECT SPOILERS" but the supposed spoiler is blacked out. That really doesnt make sense to me, if its in a spoiler area, to black it out. People take the time to type in about a subject, then get crossed off. Just a view point.

If I understand what you're saying, my response is two-fold:
1) After some fuss was kicked up a while back, people often black out spoilers as extra insurance that no-one will read things they don't want to.
2) You may not be aware (it took me a while to work it out) that anything that has been blacked out can still be read by highlighting the hidden text. The point being to ensure that only those make a conscious effort to read text will see it.

I'd also like to add, Nightblaze, that the spoiler is almost always deliberately inserted by the poster, not necessarily a "fix" by a mod or admin.

Thanks CJr and Urbane. I wasnt aware of the highlight text trick to read the spoiler. That makes sense now. I thought it was blacked out by an admin. or mod. My bad...LOL
Thanks again

How long do we have to keep Runes in Spoilers on the other Forums? The day FR is published?

Hm, good question. We'd have to call a meeting of the All Holy and Ever Powerful Watch Rules and Regulations Committee.
Or, you just have to wait for me to get wasted on Mike's Hard Berry one night and make a drunken announcement in the main forum saying that it's ok, probably full of typos and spelling mistakes.
Heh.
But yeah, to answer seriously, hold off for now. But I'm sure we'll discuss this in the Announcements Forum at some point, to see what everyone thinks. Probably as FR gets closer to being published.-jay

This topic spoiled my ignorance over spoiling by using spoiler topic headings. I am offended.

I say give each book a forum and keep all spoilers in that forum(and you should only reference books previous to the one of that particular forum!

I really dont mind spoilers in any forum. Just put
Runes ( or Whatever book ) spoiler :
spoiler here.
Then no-one will read it without having read the book and noone can complain they were not warned.
