Even though Troy had possesion of the ring, I doubt he could have actually used its power in full. True the ring did come to life before he was claimed by Wildwood, but I believe that the power came from his love for Elena. It was also an early hint to the failure of the "New" Lords in their attampt to master Kevin's Lore.
True, but Covenant didn't use the white gold at all, for any reason, other than lighting the orcrest. If anything, I thought Hile Troy, since he had called up the wild magic, would be untouchable by any other power, regardless of claim...Skyweir wrote:
Troy never used the wild magic against Caerroil Wildwood .. he used it to try to save Elena .. no matter how futile in hindsight.
Also true, and a great point. However, at that point in time Covenant was also a novice at power - he had done less with the wild magic than Troy had.Skyweir wrote:I think Wildwood intuitively sensed the danger in endowing a novice with such great power .. and at the transformation of Troy .. he did say .. that when he had "gained an incondign mastery over the wild magic" he may use it to recant the price owed to Wildwood in his service as Forestaal.SRD per Wildwood wrote:"I will not permit it" ... "the promise of the irrevocable." In the name of the One Tree and the One Forest - in hte name of the unforgiving Deep - I claim the price of my aid"
Wildwood then touched his staff to Troy's hand and "quenched" the power of the ring - seeming, at least to me, to appear that Caerroil Wildwood had more power than the wild magic?

No, the point was made pretty consistently that the wild magic was uncontrollable by Law or Earthpower.Loremaster wrote:Perhaps Law can constrain wild magic at times.
AND... the Staff of Law was destroyed by wild magic - if the Law could have constrained the white gold the Staff would not have been so vulnerable.

Troy called up the wild magic, but he had already made the promise, and it held him. When the forestal touched him with the staff, Troy was reminded of the bargain, and thus the wild magic stopped because his volition was withdrawn.
Sounds nice anyway.

You do not hear, and so you cannot be redeemed.
In the name of their ancient pride and humiliation, they had made commitments with no possible outcome except bereavement.
He knew only that they had never striven to reject the boundaries of themselves.

Covenants' way of suviving was to not beleive in the land. If he beleives he would lose himself in the real world and his leprocy would run rampent and he would die a slow death. Therefore he could not beleave in power or white gold. This caused him to be unable to use power. The only time he was able to use power was through passion or an other source like orcrest or the staff of law.
