Aren't the two intimately linked?
Shouldn't my optimism in light of such a morbid discussion be obvious?
Look at everything I wrote as a whole, not just one sentence, and you can see how it pertains to his "lifeline."

I don't think anyone could finish the story other than Donaldson...and if something did happen, I don't think I'd want to hear the ending just being told to me, it's the whole sorty (or The Real Story if you will) that we all want to hear. I mean if he never finished the 2nd Chrons after TWL, and someone told you what would happen, it would sound like this:
-They go off lookiing for the One Tree, pick up an Elohim named Findail, don't get the staff made, come back to the Land, Beat up the Clave, go to Mount Thunder TC sacrifices himseld to beat Foul, and Linden turns Vain and Findail into the staff"
Doesn't sound like much does it?

I certainly have, and I'll say two things. First, while his list of problems isn't terribly pleasant, none of them are going to kill him in the next 30 years. Second, I simply refer back to what I talked to about "dream and drive". He has a passion and a desire to finish this, and so I believe he will.
I would even have faith in him (or anyone else with similar desire) if his ailments were worse. Why? Because I have faith in myself, and mine are worse.

Please provide a basis for this opinion, considering one (just one) of the problems is stated as "my immune system doesn’t function well.", and that in 30 years SRD will be eighty-six.burgs66 wrote:I certainly have, and I'll say two things. In thirty years, the books will be finished. It won't be an issue.
And one's immune system needs to function VERY poorly for the threat of serious, life altering illnesses to occur. A poorly functioning immune system could simply mean that he's more susceptible to colds. If he were to say that the chladmydial pneumonia left him with AIDS and a severely supressed immune system (with the information we have, that certainly didn't happen...and I'm hard pressed to think of a situation where it could) , then I'd be concerned. But a severely supressed immune system is a very different thing from a poorly functioning immune system.
Someone unhealthy could NOT have written Runes, nor be continuing to study martial arts at his advanced age. Both are very demanding activities.
This really isn't a topic that anyone should be worried about. It's kind of silly be prognosticating someone's death.

Right, and as he says, I think, he has a poorly functioning immune system. Different things.
Not to say that he doesn't "suffer" from his afflictions. I just don't think we need to worry about him dying anytime soon.
Really...this whole line of questioning is just so silly.

If you're referring to me, and I assume you are, I have a considerable amount of authority on immune systems. Much more than the average, or even the above average, layperson - though certainly not a doctor.
However, I still know the difference between a poorly functioning immune system - and what that means with regard to a person's health (in a general sense) - and a suppressed immune system. They're two entirely different things. I'd be concerned if SRD said his immune system was suppressed. As he's a stickler for words...and he didn't say that...I'm not worried.
You shouldn't make assumptions about what people know and what they don't know.

I think it was a legitimate question that got a little more detailed than a few of you are comfortable with.
Hardly anything to be offended about.
I'm offended at your offence!

I never claimed to be an authority on SRD's health. My claim was to be somewhat of an authority on health in general, the immune system in particular. I looked at what SRD said about his immune system, compared it to how precise he is when choosing words (we all know how precise he is - he always says *exactly* what he means), and drew a conclusion. It wasn't hocus pocus.
If you want to keep splitting hairs, have a ball. As I said before, this is a ridiculous line of inquiry that's gone on way too long, and I'm bowing out.
Enjoy.
