so many good shows to pick from...some that stick in my mind:
1975 (i think) Warchild Tour Jethro Tull
1977 (Thanksgiving Day) Songs from the Wood Jethro Tull
1979 Yes In the Round (squire's bass solo, still gives me chills thinking about it!)
1979 or 1980 (don't remember) Queen
1999 OK Computer Radiohead
honorable mentions...
George Winston in 1987, i think
Rickie Lee Jones at The Fillmore around 1995 or so
Aerosmith Pump Tour in '88 or '89
Warren Zevon around '93 or '94 at Noe Valley Ministry (a church!)
and of course,
2004 Chris Whitley at 12 Galaxies
i also saw him this past July altho it wasn't a very good show,
he was obviously ill. but i met him and got a good photo.

you're more advanced than a cockroach,
have you ever tried explaining yourself
to one of them?

i've had this with actors before, on the set,
where they get upset about the [size of my]
trailer, and i'm always like...take my trailer,
cause... i'm from Kentucky
and that's not what we brag about.

i saw radiohead in the uk a few years ago and they were top.
jack johnson and a guitar in a tiny venue in adelaide was fantastic.
the best live band i've seen-not my favourite gig though-are 'and you will know us by the trail of dead'.

It'd take you a long time to blow up or shoot all the sheep in this country, but one diseased banana...could kill 'em all.

Damn, I've seen so many concerts that I'm really not sure which is the best.
hmm....
A toss-up with Alice Cooper (My 1st concert), & Pink Floyd (2 times).
Somewhere there's another thread where I posted a short list of "most rememberable" concerts I've been to.

The "Everything Went Heavier" mini-festival in August. I mention this partly because it was great, but mainly because of a tremendous band called Evil Scarecrow. Musically reasonbly good, though not amazing, their standout quality is their sense of humour. Spontaneously playing the theme tune from Countdown between songs made my night.

Hmm, there are a few:
* Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman & Howe concert. Totally blew me away. I had never been to see 'Yes' in concert so seeing this lineup was awesome! No opening band, just each band member coming out on his own and playing about 15 minutes of solo stuff (Bruford and Levin (bassplayer) did a duo).
The the 'Yes-stuff' came out! WOW! Awesome.
* Bill Bruford w/ Earthworks - Bruford has a fabulous jazz band that he formed in the 80s. It is a tight, modern jazz bank with some layful and soulful songs that instantly made me a fan. And to see him live in a small club with these guys (who sees jazz in a stadium?..) was a 'never-forget' moment.
* Mr. Bungle - When this band toured for their first album, they all wore masks to hide identity. But they are no Slipknot! No, these are the tightest, hardest, funnest (?) rock bank on the planet (well, they were until they broke up). Absolutely unforgetable show. At one point when one obnoxious fan kept gettnig up on stage (despite the bouncers) and prancing around before stage diving... Mike Patton (the lead singer) interrups his singing for a second to pound the guy across the hear with his microphone. The guy leaps into the crowd to escape, only to realize that his head had been opened up by the blow. Patton also realizes this, and for the next number, he quickly confirs with the bank and they break into a Doris Day number (can't remember the title, but is a sad, "I'm Sorry" type song), that Patton seranades the bleeding guy with...

The best live experience I've had has to have been this year's Wacken Open Air festival. Three days of metal in Germany
Weather could've been a bit better, though... but there were just so many top acts. Especially Dissection. And the stage shows of some of the headliners... I don't like Nightwish, but when they finished off the first night with pyrotechnics and fireworks... I oohed and aahed along with everyone else
Best single gig ever... probably tied between In Flames in April 2004 and the Pixies in June 2004. Both incredible. I was very lucky to get a ticket for the latter, too. But my friend got a pair for his birthday and the rest was history.

somberlain, you truly were lucky to get a ticket for the pixies, i considered selling my soul for one of those tickets but was talked round by my girlfriend. have you ever seen radiohead live?? i saw them in oxford in the uk about 3 years ago supported by beck and they blew me away.

That was about the time I seen them also at Tampa Stadium. (The old sombrarro)sgtnull wrote:Cheval: when did you see Floyd?
I saw them in Foxborough , Mass back in ?88? for the Momentary lapse tour.
Then caught them a few years later (same place) when they toured for The Division Bell
Also, years before those shows, got to see Roger Waters (Radio K.A.O.S.)
and a few weeks later, David Gilmour (About Face)
I can now die a happy man.

Oh, I know. I even got to see them twice that yeartazzyjoe wrote:somberlain, you truly were lucky to get a ticket for the pixies, i considered selling my soul for one of those tickets but was talked round by my girlfriend. have you ever seen radiohead live?? i saw them in oxford in the uk about 3 years ago supported by beck and they blew me away.

But as for Radiohead, not yet. I was offered a ticket (not for free) a couple of years ago but I was only just getting into them and turned it down. How I hate myself for that now. But they've confirmed that they'll be playing *sometime* next year, and I intend to go to as many UK dates as I can afford.

Rumor has it that Gilmour will tour in the U.S. early-mid 2006 to promote a solo album.
(or is that a solo CD? Albums seem absolete nowadays)
I haven't read anything about Waters yet, but keeping my fingers crossed.
He's so much more theatrical on stage than DG.

The closest to a stage I've been was Clapton - 1981.dlbpharmd wrote:I saw Eric Clapton in Knoxville TN roughly about 15 years ago.
(About 10 feet away - general admission)
It was packed so-o-o tight around the stage that my cousin actually lifted his feet off the floor
and was held up by the crowd for a few seconds. We felt like sardines packed in a tin.
But what a great concert! (Only played for just over 2 hours though.
