You already HAVE! Just by showing up you are now part of the "steering committee". The smartest thing to do, and sometimes the rarest, in a Group Read is to have numerous folk overseeing it. Yes one or two guys can try to run it and cheerlead like hellfire, but you can get seriously whiped out by your personal chapter(s) (especially when it's emergency subbing) I got so whiped out by reads in general that dAN and Duchess had to literally carry me across the Mordant finish line. I feel bad by not having posted here (or there) much in the meantime as mod-it takes a very long time to recover. Group Reads really are a whole different animal compared to all our other forums.
If announced in one big fell swoop I think a Runes dissection may prove to be the most fluid and easiest to manage that I've ever seen. The interest is going to be there--as we've already said this is almost perfect timing. We just have to have a committed steering body not only to guide and push but to select, as well, if nessesary. The rest could easily fall into place all by itself. I have regained my energy and have some free time over the Summer.
Is it too early to volunteer for a Runes chapter? I don't think I'd be of much use to the steering committee, but I'd be happy to drop my input on occassion.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”
-George Steiner
OK! Jay's just given the go ahead! Hopefully he will send out a boardwide email and announce the read on kevinswatch.com (the cover page). I'll be back this afternoon to post the read sign-up and make board announcements!!
And get this-we're going to have our FIRST EVER chapter dissected by the man himself!!! Go Jay, Go Jay!
Man! I forgot to welcome dlbpharmd as the new mod here. I specifically asked him, and conferred with Jay, to come over here the second we all decided to start the Runes read. The transition was so smooth I didn't realize he was already here. dlbpharmd has done an excellent job in the Runes discussion forum an will inject not only a passion for the Final Chronicles but fresh and levelheaded contributions to the Reads. In any case Welcome!-Let Runes begin!

I noticed that ur-bane had indicated earlier that he wanted to do a chapter, and I've asked him if he's still interested. I haven't seen him around much lately, but hopefully he'll pop in to read his PM.
Choiceless, you were given the power of choice. I elected you for the Land but did not compel you to serve my purpose in the Land... Only thus could I preserve the integrity of my creation.
